This original Leipzig beer specialty lends us the name for our brewery. Gose is a regional beer specialty that was brought to Saxony-Anhalt in the year 1738. Originally Gose comes from Goslar, a small town in Lower Saxony, and the river “Gose” in this town. This beer specialty has a refreshing, slightly sour taste and is ideal for quenching your thirst. Gose is brewed with the additional ingredients lactic acid, cilantro, and salt. Gose is a top-fermented beer with 4.5% ABV and 10.8% wort. You can enjoy it in different variations.

Welcome to another edition of "I Could Drink This Beer All Day!" Today's guest beer... Leipziger Gose!!

Cloudy gold with w hite fluffy head. The aroma was neat as hell - coriander with a backdrop of estery wheat. Mmm...

The glass is too small. I don't care if you're holding a liter maas of it - the glass is too small. Starts with a slightly tart, lemony background under a wheat malt and coriander blanket with some banana esters thrown in. Some slight saltiness, but since I just finished a KUL (with an aftertaste like Alka-Seltzer) it seemed a bit subdued over what I was expecting. Very creamy mouthfeel with somewhat light body. Finishes as it starts - lemon, coriander, wheat malt and esters, dash of salt. Damned drinkable.

PintofAle nailed it - like a cross between a wit and a hefeweiss. A friend of mine said it tasted like a Rotbusser (obscure German wheat/oat ale) with coriander added. If you see this - try it. Excellent brew.

330ml bottle from Muted Horn, Berlin (€4.30):
Bright, clear amber with a foamy white head about 3cm tall that slowly halves. Slightly sour & salty nose with floral notes, a little cereal & subtle hops but mellow for the style. It's a similar taste, subtly salty with some lemon & a moderate sourness that is more floral than the nose then some light tart flavours to close - easily the best gose I can remember trying.

330ml bottle into a small glass. No freshness dating.

Dull orange body. Initial bright white head and swarms of carbonation die out to nothing. Interesting aroma, floral, spiced. Does have some citrus note in the taste and the feel of salt. Good refreshing beer for the warmer months.

This one pours a mostly clear golden orange color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like lemon, hay, wheat, grassiness, and some citrus.

This is a lot less sour than you’d expect a gose to be if you’d only had Americanized goses so far. It’s wheaty, crisp, clean, and super smooth, with just the slightest hint of tartness on the back end. There’s lemon peel, a touch of grassiness, a smooth citrusy finish, and a nice creamy wheatiness on the back end.

This is super crisp and clean, with a fantastic drinkability.

This was honestly a breath of fresh air – it was fantastic. I could see drinking many tankards of this in Leipzig if the opportunity presented itself.

I was curious to see what a standard gose is “supposed” to taste like. And I’m glad I did because none of the versions I’ve tried in craft breweries across America are quite the like this one. This is such an easy drinking beer, I can imagine drinking liters on a hot day. Almost like drinking sparkling water. The coriander is pleasant and deep but subtle, and there is almost a mineral quality to it. After having my palate assaulted by an endless stream of bitter hops and bourbon barrels, there is something relaxing and almost quaint about it.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice murky yellow/orange with little white head. Nose is funky peaches, wheat, grass, strawberries, cranberries, vanilla, pomegranate. The taste is amazing. Not really sour at all, but a tiny bit salty. Peaches, apples, strawberries, wheat, a touch of ginger, grapes, and a bit of leathery funk. Mouthfeel is light. Overall, a really interesting beer. I was expecting a bit more sourness on the taste, but still really nice.

Pours a bubbly yellow-orange, with a full white head that slowly dissipates. Very wheat forward with coriander and a lemon-lime gatorade essence. Very pleasant taste of a margarita soaked bar towel with a sweet tart chaser. The tiny bubbles stay around, continually climbing up the glass. A crispy boi. I really enjoyed this, more so than most American takes on the style.

L: Pours caramel orange. Very active beverage, the nucleation is intense.

S: Sour wheat. The coriander is mostly present in my imagination.

T: I was expecting it to be quite a bit more sour--It's not really--Bayerischer Bahnhof does make a sour, their Berlinner Weiss. I'm glad they could set the record straight on what a gose is regardless.

It is sour but not mouth-puckering intense sour. There is an earthy, herbal tone along with a subtle salt flavor.

F: It's bitter, crisp, and refreshing.

O: I'm curious if it will age well in glass bottles.

No 'best before' date present

Pours a golden burnt orange body topped with a thick, fluffy head of bright white foam; decent retention leaves spotty strands of soapy lacing along with a dense, frothy collar.

Aromas of spicy orange zest and sourdough bread offer a refreshing heft softened by earthy salinity and hints of coriander, with light herbs and peppery spice to close.

Taste opens with coriander and peppery cracker, with dense, earthy salinity and herbal touches along the mid-palate; light orange/lemon zest fading into the swallow.

Mouthfeel has a light-medium body with moderate-high carbonation and excellent effervescence along the palate; crisp and quenching while drying steadily through the finish.

There’s a quiet depth to this ~4.5% brew revealing itself at a steady, quenching pace; notes are subtle but rather detailed, and leave me enjoying each sip. Very understandably a standard for the style.
