Style: Berliner Weissbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 3.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the "Champagne of the North". He requested the beer be served with syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Our interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the "Berliner Weisse" style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

Pours a light bronze color that is so light its almost clear. Thin white head dissipates steadily leaving no lacing or residual head. Beer is cloudy to the eye.

Smell has notes of wheat, white wine, a touch of lemon and lemon zest, with some light acidic tartness.

Taste follows the nose with a touch of white wine, lemon, lemon peel, all cased in a mildly tart acidic flavor. As the acidic notes die down you get a strong wheat malt flavor on the back end and through the finish. Dry finish.

Feel is light and crisp yet acidic and puckering. Medium carbonation. This is incredibly refreshing with a dry finish that leaves you anticipating the next sip.

Overall this is a very nice berliner - classic and well crafted example of the style. I fear it is underrated here.

A yellow pour with a significant amount of haze throughout it, 3/4" white head. You got some wheat and tartness in the nose.

Taste, slight tartness, a little bit about lemon and wheat. Stays light bodied. Standard fare, but the price is way too high for this stuff. Standard fare. Good hot weather beer. Traditional.

A: Light coriander (lemon), coupled with a clean lacto sourness that lingers.

A: Golden color, quite clear, with a thin white head that quickly recedes into the glass.

T: Light coriander, slightly grainy, with a slightly sharp lingering sourness.

M: Light bodied with high carbonation. There’s a weird smoothness from the oats.

O: Alright; while effervescent and easy to drink, the sharpness of a typical Berliner has been muted by the oats. A creamy mouthfeel though, does not work well with the sharp lacto aroma and flavor and does not seem well integrated.

11.2 oz. bottle poured into tight nonic

L: pale yellow, loads of activity in glass, though it pushes up minimal head of white foam, dissipates quickly; clarity is stunning but requires a careful pour ... loads of yeast/debris in bottom of bottle; clarity is stunning; no sticking or lacing, but it does keep a tight little collar of white foam

S: sour apples ... lemons and very tart at first, but it opens up like crazy and becomes super fruity sweet ... apples, grapes, candied apple, peach

T: sour apples, lemons, much more sour than the nose ... lots of lemon ... grainy finish, a good gose without the salt ... slightest bit of buttery funk, but it's just a hint

F: light, crisp, very full for such a low ABV brew

O: clean, easy-drinking "sour" with an incredible nose ... the fruity sweet aroma is a major highlight, and a little of it shows up in the flavor from time to time, though this one crosses over from tart to sour for me, as it should ... would make for a perfect palate-cleanser or finisher to wrap up a session
