11.2 oz bottle. Totally raging carbonation. Very audible mountainous head that eventually dissipates and mutes. Ghostly hazy straw color. Bright citrus floral smell - all yeast and bacteria aroma. First sip is awesome,O obviously lactic acid that coats the mouth and doesn't linger too long. Aftertaste is distinct cherry pie Brettanomyces Lambicus flavor. Tartness is just a bit more that normal for a berliner-weizen. Lactobacillus doesn't get lost though. Wheat body is depleted in fermentation, thin and dry as expected. But the wheat flavor isn't lost. This beer holds up amazingly for a 3%er. Kind of a tooth melter, my teeth hurt after drinking this one. But very worth while. This beer kicks ass.

On tap at Blue Monk in Buffalo, NY

Appearance. Hazy very light straw in color. Served with 2 fingers of head. Light enough to be almost luminescent.

Smell. Very clean sour, with lemon juice and heavy brett influence. Some very light bready malts in the background, white bread.

Taste. Starts off hugely sour, to a point where it cuts any other flavors out for a while. The sourness is beyond anything else that I have ever had before, except maybe those warheads that were popular amongst my friends as a child. The only thing to be said is that the this is a super clean, dry and refreshing sourness. After this initial wave there is a very nice, simple, clean shortbread-like malt presence that balances out the sourness. Brett presence throughout. Dry and crisp finish... refreshing.

Mouthfeel. Very thin in body with a moderate to high amount of carbonation. Overall the mouthfeel aids in the refreshment aspect of the beer.

I wouldn't want to bash this one for being overly sour, as it is a berliner weisse. I just wish is held on to the hint of malt that you get just before the finish.

Enjoyed on tap at the Armsby Abbey.

A - Poured into a tulip a clear straw hue with a thin white head that leaves nice halo/clouding.

S - Quite funky with definate Brettanomyces Lambicus. Past the funk there is some very nice bready/yeast/wheat qualities.

T - The delicious funk upfront followed by the yeast and bready malts. Nice lemons and light honey, with nice musty bread. Really sour upfront with berliner weiss immediately following.

M - Very light and crisp. Super sour upfront with a nice wheat finish.

O - This was a very interesting beer. Really enjoyed the initial intense sourness followed by the normal wheat qualities. Really enjoyable beer.

Review ##1400! Based on my review of a bottle I had awhile back I have always been wanting a large growler of this… Well, GBX delivered on this in the form of a one gallon growler. OH SNAP! Served from growler into a Green Man snifter. Poured golden yellow with a one finger pure white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, lemon peel, earth, tart, funk, and subtle bleu cheese. The flavor was of sweet malt, lemon zest, lemon rine, tart, sour, earth, and funk. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this is a great brew. I’m really glad it was raining all day so I could sit down and consume this entire growler in one day. At 3% ABV, this one definitely packs a punch on flavor and aroma. This Berliner definitely brings the goods for the style. If you have not had this brew before you need to fix that as soon as possible. I suggest trying it on tap as it was actually a lot more intense on the flavor aspect than the bottle. Just plain good.

Note: DO NOT drink an entire growler of this beer in a one-day session. You will regret it based on the pH imbalance in your stomach. You have been warned!

A: Pale and cloudy with tons of carbonation evident

S: Lots of yeast character, dry, barnyard and citrus

T: Lemony and effervescent. Tastes more like lemonade than what you'd typically think of as beer. Very refreshing.

M: Light and highly carbonated. Leaves a dry, puckering feeling like sucking on a lemon.

O: Really tasty, probably my favorite example of this style that I've come across.

Brettanomyces Lambicus

Pours a light hazy straw yellow.  Dumping in the yeast darkens it a shade.  Huge bright white head slowly disappears.

Light, Belgian yeast on the nose.  Smelled immensely funky while pouring, not so much now that it's settled.  Straw, grass, coriander, and a hint of lemon.

Holy hell is this unexpectingly sour!  The first thing that immediately came to mind is child hood memories of warheads.  Tastes exactly like the white powder of warheads candy.  Massive citric acid.  Some lemon in the background, but really this is one-dimensional citric acid to me.  It's fun to drink.

Light effervesce dances on the palate.  Very refreshing.

Overall, I didn't read any reviews on this prior to trying, so I was expecting funk and a touch of sour.  But no, this is probably the sourest of sours I've had.  It's mouth puckering and i actually teared up.  Nothing complex about it, but a must try if you like intense sours.

Big thanks to Greg for picking this one up for me. It's a long-time favorite of mine, finally getting around to reviewing it.

Pours a hazy bright yellow with a thin white head. Smell is very tart, almost like a wild, but with some more regular light German beer flavor lingering in the background. Taste is very light and tart, very refreshing, almost like a cross between beer and lemonade, but not in the terrible way that combination actually tastes. Mouthfeel is very light-bodied with high carbonation. Overall, this beer is really fantastic, basically a perfect berliner.

330ml Bottle received in trade with Phyl21ca - thanks!

Appearance - Hazy yellow colour with a large size fizzy white coloured head. It's hard to make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is not much lacing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes.

Smell - Breads/grains, lemons, yeast/brett

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste bread/grains mixed with some tart lemon/citric notes. It ends with a tart lemony/citric brett aftertaste

Overall - Lots of mouth puckering sour flavour going on. But it still remains quite drinkable and refreshing even. It's a little one dimensional taste wise, but still a solid beer.

Squat bottle poured into a large tulip. Perfect for a beautiful afternoon in front of the grill. Loads of head, serious amounts that dissipate quickly and transition to nice lacing. Color is very nice cloudy golden. The nose is mostly sour peach. Flavor is slightly sour with loads of peach and melon. Overall, the flavor is not overpowering and lends itself to food. High carbonation and light flavor adds to the drinkability.

Reviewed from notes: Huge thanks goes out to Jsanford for sending me a growler and a bottle of this to drink side by side.

appearance: hazy golden yellow with a 1 finger head

smell: tart, sour, wheat, lactic,

taste: sour, tart, wheat malts,

mouthfeel: mild carbonation, medium body,

overall: one of my favorite berliners. had such a nice balance between tartness and malt backbone. could drink this all day long. Wish it was easier to get. But I like the addition of brett into this beer, rather then just using lactobacillus. Nice touch.

Cheers,
The CPJ

M - unbelievably tart and big puckering from it. tons of carbonation light bodied.

O - a truly great beer. pricey but worth picking up a bottle.

On-tap at Churchkey in DC, poured into a tumbler.

A- Pours a hazy light yellow color with a finger of white head that quickly recedes, leaves little lacing.

S- Lemon, lots of wheat and light barnyard funk, a citrusy tartness is also noticeable.

T- Similar to the nose, lemony citrus, lactic acidity with bretty funk and wheat.

M- Light-bodied, smooth feel with a dry finish.

O- I really enjoyed this beer. It's a very tasty, drinkable Berliner, definitely give this a try if you see it.

Appearance. Pours a lightly hazy, light straw with a massive, foamy white head.

Smell. Wheat, slightly sour, some spicy, yeasty, earthy funk.

Taste. Sour lemon and a little lime, just a small amount of toasted wheat. Great stuff.

Mouthfeel. Light and refreshing, strong and lively carbonation.

Overall. Great beer for this sunny spring afternoon. Light, refrshing and delicious.
