Bottle shared by Lee - much obliged!

Pours a hazy lemon-yellow color with a half-finger white head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving light lacing.

Smells of funky brett - not the nice wet hay/funk that is crisp and usually welcomed, but rather a combination of that with dried corn and "baby boot". It wasn't as atrocious as the last descriptor implies but it wasn't as welcoming as I'd hoped.

Tastes better than it smells, closer to a berlinerweiss than anything with brett. Light malt with hints of wheat kick things off and are joined quickly by tart citrus. Midway through the sip the brett comes into play, clean funk with parts of wet hay. The brett fades out into a crisp ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with active carbonation.

Drinkability is OK. I didn't have a problem finishing my glass however I'm not sure about another.

Overall I was hoping for more from this beer after enjoying the non-brett version however the brett didn't meld as much as I'd hoped. An interesting beer but one I wouldn't seek out again.

11.2 oz bottle.

It pours out as foam, expect it to take a looong time to pour this one The foam is bright white and firm. The color of the beer is marvelous, almost like a sparkling white wine.

The smell is phenomenal. It is aidic and citrusy, but lightly so. There is a hint of metallic smell but it works. It has a bit of standard yeast and wheat smells. It smells refreshing. And that is good because I went from 30 degree Wisconsin yesterday to 70 degree sunny Atlanta today.

The taste is also refreshing. It has a slight citrus acid bite and a small hinting of funk but nothing overpowering. The weissbier part of this is delectable. It is light, airy, smooth, and easy drinking.

If only this stuff was mass bottled and sold for a cheap price, it would utterly destroy bud light.

Much thanks to the generous Cameron for helping me feed my berliner weisse addiction. Poured from a 11.2 oz bottle into a tulip glass.

A- Probably the most attractive you will see a berliner weisse look with a such pale, straw colored body. The head was absolutely beautiful. Produced three fingers width of well carbonated, effervescent, white foamy head that just gleaned in the light. Good head retention. Little to no lacing.

S- The brett most definitely makes the aroma distinguishable from other berliners I have had. Very potent with big, funky, barnyard aromas upfront. Lots of hay. Underneath, you can just barely make out the typical attributes of a berliner. I loved how the funk from the brett turned out, but it was a little overpowering in my opinion. Some restraint would definitely have bumped this up a bit.

T- This beer definitely came in stages. Once again, brett is the first thing to hit the palate. Not as overpowering as in the aroma, but just enough funk to make it noticeable. This quickly gives way in the middle as a slightly, soured wheat/yeast combo comes forth. The ending is a little lackluster with not much going on. The lactic sourness was near gone and there weren't really any assertive or distinct flavors going on. Seemed a bit muddled in the finish.

M- Extremely carbonated, borderline too carbonated. Thin body though, how I expect a berliner to be.

D- In it's literal sense, this is extremely drinkable, as almost any berliner should be. However, I did find myself wanting a little more.

Overall, a good berliner weisse, but Southampton still is the gold standard for me. Just not enough lactic sourness for me. Also was missing some distinctive flavors of apples, lemons, etc. that I so much enjoyed in SH's version. Regardless, definitely worth a try if you are a berliner fan.

A: cloudy, light straw color, HIGH carbonation made a huge head initially. rescinded somewhat quickly.

s: brett funk! sour apple, horse blanket, very nice smelling

t: not nearly as funky as the smell lets on. nicely tart, but not overly sour.

m: very dry. this is a small, light beer. very refreshing.

d: pretty good, but wish it was more funky tasting and more sour.

On-tap at Prime 16 into an Unibroue tulip.

A: Clear, pale straw body with plenty of effervescence fueling an inch of fine white head. Decent retention but almost no lace. Looks like a Berliner Weiss to me.

S: Clean, tart, and well-balanced. The lightly floral Bretty funk mixes with the lactic sourness to create a pleasant fruitiness reminiscent of grape skins, apple, and peach. It's definitely not as intense as I'd like it to be, but it's light and delightful.

T: Starts out with some generic lactic tartness, then finishes with some earthy Brett. Fresh, sour aftertaste. Nowhere near as complex as the nose, but seriously clean and refreshing.

M: The body is quite light, yet made to feel substantial due to the abundance of creamy carbonation. Lovely.

D: The Brett addition makes this far more interesting than the base version, and yet the supreme crispness and refreshment have been maintained. Stupendously drinkable, I wish this were cheap and available in mass quantities all summer long.

Notes: I enjoyed the regular version of this beer when it was on tap a few months back, and I greatly prefer this version. The Brett really adds a huge amount of complexity and flavor, and yet the pure refreshment isn't diminished. Great example of the style, plain and simple.

I knocked the bottle from the top shelf of the fridge to the tile floor last night, whilst rummaging for some carrot cake. This is a review of the spilled brew that I drank off the floor with a straw. Just kidding, thankfully the bottle was strong like bull and hard like 'rock-wiler'.

A - This is a very hazy lemonade-looking brew, with quite a large head for the style. The head recedes after a couple of minutes, leaving a only faint wisps of froth. The apprearance is generally right-on, but the color is a bit unappealing.

S - From the moment I open the cap, the funk emanates prodigiously. Sharp cheese notes (Grana Padano) are particularly notable. There is also plenty of sock and unsweet apple in the nose.

T - The taste is not as funky as the smell, for one thing. There is an appreciable dryness that is a prominent feature of the flavor profile as it applies to the whole of the flavor components. There are notes of apple, white grape, hay and grain; all are expressed with a minimum of sweetness. The acidity is moderate, especially given the style. Overall, it tastes very good.

M - The feel is very nearly inextricable from the taste; there is a bright effervescence that is omnipresent in the brew.

D - Ahhh. Very good.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a pale yellow color and a cloudy consistency. There was a massive, creamy, long-lasting head. Average lacing.

S: About as funky-smelling as a beer can be without being a saison. Very malty as well.

T: Tasted of malt, with a little bit of citrus and the advertised brettanomyces. Given the pungency of the smell, the taste was much milder than you might think. Still, pretty tasty.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a dry finish. Medium-bodied.

D: An interesting brew, and very drinkable

Picked up a bottle from The Greenville Beer Exchange last night. Berliner's are fast becoming a favorite of mine, we'll see what's in store.

A- Thick fluffy champagne-like head, quickly dissipates into the lightly straw colored beer. Lots of bubbles rising from the center. Nice hazy appearance.

S- Nice dose of Brett funkiness greets you. Musty damp notes, sock-like aroma with some lemon zest. Definitely not something everyone will enjoy smelling, but gives a good impression that the flavors will be memorable.

T- Again following the nose, the brett is present, but not overwhelming. Great acidic tartness that targets the tip of your tongue. Not extremely tart. Hints of pineapple and lemon, and some bread flavors.

M- Bone Dry, has a definite champagne-like texture to the dryness. Thin with a heavy dose of carbonation. This one had me burping after the first sip. It goes well with the acidic tartness.

D- I'm starting to believe Berliner-Weisse might be the most drinkable style out there. Well worth the 5.99 price for a 12 oz bottle.

10 oz poured into a small pint tulip glass

a - pale white with the tint of yellow, clear yet cloudy. a frothy white head tops it and leaves a nice ring of lacing around the glass.

s - funk funk funk. hints of lactic activity is in there as well.

t - the first taste is a mineral like saltiness that compliments a light fruity funky reminiscent of tutti frutti and leather it with a nice lactic tang. as it warms the funk fades, but the fruitiness remains enough to accent the full force of the lactic acid throughout the beer. a nice dough like maltiness lingers on the palate in the finish

m - the body is medium-light and highly carbonated for a beer on tap I'm guessing approaching levels of ~2.7 volumes of CO2.

d - an excellent example of the style. the funk of the Brettanomyces is enough to highlight the nice lactic tang of the beer without getting in the way.

A - Pours with a huge, white head of foam that settles rapidly despite vigorous carbonation rising to the surface of the beer. The body is straw yellow and perfectly clear.

S - Acidic and very funky. Intense, earthy sewer aromas. Smells vaguely like what you get when you clean out a drain trap (though it isn't quite that unappetizing).

T - Very dry, but only slightly sour. This seems much more champagne like than other examples of this style. The dry, vinous character remains through the middle with some light pineapple notes of brett and a hint of soft honey malt. There is a some slight residual sweetness in the finish with a bit more malt character showing through the funk and acid.

M - A thin body, very high carbonation, and a slightly sweet finish.

D - The aroma is really quite over the top with a funk character that borders on foul. Fortunately the flavor is much more pleasant and surprisingly restrianed. The acidity is much milder than I expected based on the aroma and despite is champagne like character is maintains a certain creamy malt quality that lingers on the palate after the beer is gone. Very drinkable and quite an interesting take on the historical possibilities of this beer.
