Brewed by:
Gasthaus & Gosebrauerei Bayerischer Bahnhof

Style: Schwarzbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.30%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our dark beer is called „Heizer“ (stoker). It is a bottom-fermented beer and has a full malt aroma. Our dark beer has a velvety texture and is rather light an sweet, which makes it an ideal beer for guests who dislike a strong, bitter beer.

Served on-draught into one of the brewery's branded seidels at the brewery in Leipzig. Expectations were average; I'm not too fond of the style. Reviewed from notes taken in June 2011.

A: Pours a two finger head of tan colour, lovely cream and thickness, and good retention. Nontransparent black colour. Very appealing.

Sm: Chocolate, caramel, and cream. Complex enough but not overbearing. A mild strength aroma.

T: The notes from the nose are complex and cooperative, culminating in a nice pleasant-but-bold climax. The chocolate malts linger through the finish, encouraging another sip. No alcohol comes through, though the ABV is merely average. A slight hint of nuts is buried in the body. Well balanced. Built in a somewhat mundane manner for the style.

Mf: Very dry and coarse, drying the tongue unnecessarily. Matches the style nicely, however.

Dr: Average pricing by local standards, and average quality. That's fair play. It doesn't make a good session beer, and could certainly handle a higher ABV - perhaps via more malts. Give it a go if you like the style.

A poor candidate for aging.

Drank fine out of the seidel. This glass is undoubtedly the ideal for the beer. Just ask the Germans that designed the glass specifically for the beer!

well this beer is quite interesting and I'm not sure if I like it or not.

a - deep black with solid head, but very average for this style

s - smells very very roasted with hints of coffee

t - and tastes like that! a beer completely ruled by its roasted malts

m - average body and carbonation

o - quite drinkable, but I'm not sure if this beer is unbalanced or has "character"

Dark color, almost balck. Beautiful off - white foam.
In the smell malt, light caramel and toasted notes, coffee in the back. Not bad.
Smooth taste, lightly toasted, dark malt, coffee touch. Very smooth and drinkable.
Light body, toasted aftertaste, a bit sweet, and coffee again.
