A- This pours a dark brown color with just very slight tinges of red in the background.....it seems clear but it is obviously a rather opaque beer in general. The head is light toffee in color, starts out around one finger in thickness and settles rather fast, but it does not disappear totally, but into a half finger film over the liquid....it is both a blend of soapy looking bubbles and cloud like puffiness. Carbonation is too hard to see of course and the lacing is rather good, with several layers of foam clinging to the side of my glass! Overall a decent looking Stout.

S- The general aromas are mild and unfulfilling, but my nostrils do detect some dark chocolate nuances, milk chocolate covered strawberries, sweet Root beer tones such as vanilla, dark toffee/molasses sweetness, and even hints of licorice root. Interesting to say the least but could be a little more robust....

T- The flavors are quite fruity and full of raspberry pulp, which actually is a little surprising to me! Underlying tones of milk chocolate truffle filling, dark chocolate covered berries, vanilla roundness, again with the licorice, and almost a bit like Skor bits in terms of caramel/toffee sweetness. This becomes more malt like as it warms and the finish is actually quite clean and lacking unfortunately. It doesn't taste bad by any means but it's not what I would expect from an Export Stout.

M/O- Light-medium bodied and heavily carbonated, which I think is a little overdone, I would put this in a class of its' own, but definitely not an Export.....I will say that the alcohol is well hidden and it isn't offensive but I don't know what to make of this honestly....I'd drink it again, but wouldn't go out of my way for this one again. Average....

650ml bottle - this seems to be the week of raspberry beers, even though there's still a foot of snow in my backyard.

This beer pours a very dark, amber-edged brown colour, with three chubby fingers of puffy, creamy, and mildly fizzy tan head, which leaves some decent old forest growth lace around the glass as it rather lazily subsides.

It smells of roasted, gritty, and grainy caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, faint cafe-au-lait notes, an ethereal black raspberry fruitiness, and subtle earthy, musty, and floral hops. The taste is sweet raspberries, bready and doughy caramel malt, a bit of free-range ashiness, day-old coffee grounds, medium chocolate, and a still pretty understated earthy, leafy, and gently soused-up floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its structurally sound frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with perhaps a touch of wet char getting a few wires crossed here. It finishes off-dry, the cocoa, caramel, and meek raspberries keeping up appearances.

Overall - this comes across as a pleasantly rendered version of the base style, with the guest ingredient playing it a tad coy, but providing ample fruity esters in the end. Flavourful, refreshing, and certainly worth checking out.
