Notes: Mix and pat, and bake in a pan, get this gingerbread ale while you can. Dough Head mixes the best of brewing and baking to create a beer with a touch of spice that is balanced with a malty sweetness. So instead of a trail of breadcrumbs through the dark forest, follow this delicious treat for a pint of perfection!

Got a bottle of this as a christmas gift. It looks interesting and I do like Vancouver Island Brewery.

It has a cloudy, orange-brown body (just like a gingerbread cookie) and a creamy beige head just like their Sea Dog Amber Ale. The aroma is definitely gingerbread, with extra ginger and cinnamon notes. The taste first reminds me of ginger ale, heavy on the ginger and clove. Also has a light malty flavour. It feels creamy and medium bodied with a sharp fizziness. Overall, it is a nice treat. It may not be a sessionable brew, but definitely enjoyable.

This is a beer that really does taste like a Xmas baking session however I could not drink more than a glass of this as the spices and the sweetness become too much after awhile. I like how VI made a beer that really tastes like gingerbread but for drinkability I would go with Stormwatcher or Hermannator anyday.

A: opaque, murky, muddy brown with amber highlights.
S: big gingerbread and spice! Very clean. High notes of cinnamon, clove, allspice.
T: clove and not much else. Some lingering finish but not much ... But wait ... it was obviously too cold because as it warmed up it mellowed and was much broader and more flavourful. Nicely balanced. Have patience.
M: surprisingly (given the colour and nose) quite light and fresh
O: am I ever glad that I waited for this beer to warm up a bit. After first thinking it was thin and one dimensional I now quite like it. Very well balanced. but I still want a longer lingering finish but maybe that would require more alcohol and that would throw the whole thing out of whack. I'll definitely look for this beer again next year.

Poured into 4oz taster @ The Island Beer Festival

A: Light and transluscent, basically a candy-ish gingerbread-brown. Low, somewhat-foamy head, with little lacing.

S: Definitely gingerbread: ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, with little malt and nutty after. Best part of the beer IMO.

T: Similar to the smell, but a little too faint. A bit of malt upfront, with ginger and nutmeg after.

M: Dry, crumbly, but a little too faint. Short on tongue, with a bit too much carb.

O: Very ture to the name, and a good seasonal. Just not quite Winter Warmer material.

Vancouver Island Brewery 'Dough Head' Gingerbread Ale @ 5.5% , originally had on tap @ Island Beer Fest , review from a couple of 650 ml bottle's
A-pour is a light brown , with a small/medium size off white head that is quickly dissapating leaving a lace ring along the stein
S-fresh baked gingerbread
T-sweet start , middle & finish , tons of clove , (maybe I'll try and let the beer warm ?)
MF-too much clove in the taste , leaves a kinda dry mouthfeel / aftertaste , ok carbonation , medium body
Ov-gotta sweet tooth over the holidaze , enjoy a 'Dough Head' , I don't see myself drinking this beer any other time of the year

cheers LampertLand

Today I went to the liquor store to return bottles, not intending to buy any beer, but I couldn't resist the winter seasonals. The time for winter beer is here!

A: amber/brown with three fingers of tan head. Head dissipates fairly quickly leaving lacing.
S: gingerbread! For sure. Delicious. Cloves, molasses, ginger.
T: Initial taste of gingerbread, followed by bitterness and then lingering ginger/spice. I'm not sure the bitterness fits with the other flavours.
F: Smooth. A bit thick, but certainly not as thick as stout.
O: I'm definitely glad I tried it, and the name very much fits the beer. I think I would enjoy more malt/sweetness to go with the gingerbread flavours.

Would I buy it again? Well, maybe, but this isn't the sort of beer you'd want to drink often. Very much a seasonal.
