Poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a ruddy burnt orange close to amber/red faint murky linings further inward in its body. Just a cap of white foamy head swiftly died off. Some messy lace.
The aroma had some earthy sweet character with golden raisins, dates, grapefruit pith, citrus rind, caramel/toffee malts and a touch of dark chocolate with some toast. Even lighter dose of vanilla on the back end.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet side indicating a mostly fine blend of all of the prior mentioned aromas. Some rounded out nuttiness plays in the aftertaste with some caramel and grapefruit.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Pretty good carbonation and ABV. Good finish of golden raisins, dates and grapefruit pith, slightly dry.
Overall, in my opinion, I would say this is more of an American barleywine than an English one. And that would be because of the stronger hop content in this. Still, it's well worthy to come back to.

A twelve ounce can with a unreadable date/batch code poured in a 13oz. snifter.

Look- Pours a dark orange color with a small amount of off white foam.

Smell- Caramel malt along with some floral notes. A hint of spice hiding in back.

Taste- Caramel malt, pine, some grapefruit and floral flavor.

Feel- Slick and resiny with a slight bitterness.

Overall- A 10 percent barleywine in a can? Sign me up for this one! A tasty bargain at $9.99 a four pack and perfect for camping or out on the water. A nice niche filler of a beer.

Note: I rated this poorly the first time I had it (2.92). Normally I wouldn't re-review, but this beer is actually really well done and my first rating does it injustice. I wonder if there was something wrong with my first experience of it. As it is much different this time around. Or maybe they changed up the recipe??

Poured from can into a snifter

Appearance – The beer pours a deep golden color with a one finger head of fizzy white foam. The head has a good level of retention slowly fading over time to leave tons of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is sweet with lots of caramel and candied sugar which is mixed with some bready and slightly doughy smells. Along with these aromas are some lighter hop smells consisting mostly of pine and a little bit of grass.

Taste - The taste begins with a bready taste mixed with a good showing of caramel and some candied sugar. As the taste advances the brediness and sweet are joined by a nice balance of hop flavors with a light citrus, pine, and some herbal tastes all hitting the tongue. More sweet flavors arrive at the end, being of a light fruity nature, and with a slight surge of the hop and a hint of a warming alcohol taste arriving as well, one is left with a warming and slightly hopped and sweetened bready taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average to slightly thicker for a beer of 10 % abv and has a carbonation level that is rather low. The low carbonation is great for the bready taste, and with the slightly thicker feel it makes for a great slow sipper to warm you through and through.

Overall – While my first foray at this beer left me in disappointment, my decision to give it another try was a great one to make. This beer a great flavor profile and wonderful, but respectable in nature, drinkabiltiy. This one I quite enjoyed. While I gave my first trial at it a low score of 2.93, that was a wrong doing. Whether it be a new recipe, or me just getting a bad brew, I don't know, but this is a fine and tasty beer and one to try if you are in the mood for something big and robust, but yet still very approachable.

Tastes more like a dipa to me...but that taste is incredible. And affordable. Really surprised me considering it's the first beer from these guys I really enjoyed. Definitely a go to for me now. Outstanding!

Poured from can into tulip, little to no head, seems low carbonation, little to no lacing. Turbid dark orange/amber in the glass, opaque. Smells of caramel malt, honey, slight citrus and an earthy underlying dankness. Taste is initially caramel sweetness, honey and grapefruit pith, good creaminess on that palate thru the middle and the finish is a pretty aggressive bitterness that lingers for a few. Nice caramel, citrus aftertaste on the palate. Started off weak, but finished pretty good. Great job of covering up the 10% ABV

Bitter, bready, hides the booze. I like my barleywines on the sweeter side, but I respect this one anyway.
