The reason I get around is because I can’t take the same thing over and the over. You know, everyone is different. Some peeps marry their high school sweetheart - but not Raul. And this is why I like this beer; it’s different, it’s even a bit zesty. To be honest, I’ve never had a beer like this before. And I’ll be the first to ask for it - I need help. I have no hotdog idea what flavor or backbone this beer presents. It’s hoppy, but that’s all I got. It’s smooth and all, but like reading Dostoevsky, I have no damn clue what I am getting myself into (but I know it’s quality).
Yep!

I think I had this during Sacramento Beer Week, that appears to be where my rough draft notes occur time wise on my phone.
So let's give a real review that talks about the Sabro hop. In the few iterations I have tried, it is the zestiest, pepper burn of any hop/beer I've ever had. This one strays not from the line. Looks the standard yellow with good grade of clarity to it and 1/2" white head. Everything on the up and up. The aroma pushes lemon-lime bell pepper notes. It screams of neomexicanus origins.
Taste is almost like drinking a spicy beer, there is a vegetal hop burn, bell pepper, lemon and lime keeps coming but its secondary to that hop burn. Certainly having 9% abv in the mouth feel contributes to that burn, but its not the same as a "hot" beer that has the alcohol burn, its different, like having a quick drink of a highly carbonated lager while drinking some really spicy Mexican food with a lot of cilantro in it. In fact, it hid the alcohol quite well despite the burn from the hop variety. Malt character was simply dry, light and out of the way as it should be with something this unique.
I think we're gonna see more Sabro hopped beers down the road. Would recommend.
