This dark and foreboding beast slumbered in rum and bourbon barrels for over a year. It has now emerged with its intensity taken to new heights. Balance may not be the first thing you think of after taking a sip, but when everything is over the top, we consider that perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

16 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 9/24/21, had 4/8/22.
Pours a thick looking dark brown, opaque, with a half inch head of darker foam and some tight, foamy lacing. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, oak, char, rum, some vanilla, light bourbon. Mostly similar flavors- roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, rum, some oak and char, light bourbon and marshmallow. Smooth, has a solid full body, well carbonated.
This is really well done and enjoyable. The rum barrels star, lots of chocolate and roast, lots of good aromas and flavors overall. The bourbon barrels are light, but impactful.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a quarter finger dark khaki head that slowly dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted and biscuit malt, bourbon, rum, bakers chocolate and dark dried fruit. Flavor is dark toasted malt, bourbon, light rum, dark chocolate, dates, raisins and a little licorice and vanilla. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A rich, flavorful barreled stout with great bourbon notes and lighter rum character. The malt has good chocolate character and the rum and bourbon provide dark fruit notes. A bit bourbon forward, I'd have liked a little more rum, but it's great the way it is. Nicely done anniversary stout. Looks, smells and tastes great.

Pours dark brown with barely any foam formation. Dense looking in the glass.
Nose is bright scents. Fruit and spices. Perhaps almost a marmalade. Roasted malt and fruit gives this brew a toasted bread and jam expression. Brown sugar as well. This just smells like brunch. There is an oak presence that sits atop.
Taste follows the trend. Barrel aged stout, but beyond the pale of just bourbon. Bright jammy fruit joins with roasted malt to create this very unique flavor profile. Apricot, perhaps? And fresh apples? The spices are there too. Cinnamon and brown sugar. Very sweet.
Mouthfeel is fullbodied with mild carbonation. A little bubbly for a barrel aged stout. Thick, dense, cloying.
Overall the unique collection of barrels make this an incredibly expressive brew. Different and extremely enjoyable. The base stout holds up to the aging and turns into something special. Well done.

Coal-black body topped with a thin, wispy, light tan head. Big aroma; roasted grains and rich dark chocolate. Outstanding flavor; rich, decadent notes of sweet chocolate, caramel, vanilla; a very sly undercurrent of whiskey; tobacco; sublime earthy bitterness. Heavy body; slick and oily texture; robust residual sugar feel; moderate presence of alcohol warmth.
Great googly-moogly! This anniversary barrel-aged beer packs some punch and tasty complexity. The richness, depth, and balance truly are amazing. This is just a well-crafted blended stout amplified with judicious bourbon and rum barrel aging. Very, very nice.

Very nice blend if the mix of flavors is due solely to the base beer and barrel treatments. Quite expressive, lots of dark chocolate, apple, brownie batter, rum, honey, and some spice that reminds me more of rye than bourbon.

Reddish brown head with a black, brown tinted body. Smell is sweet, nutty, and quite boozy; I’m getting chocolate cake, a bit of maple syrup, rum, and plenty of vanilla. Taste is rich and sweet and boozy. Immediate molasses and vanilla, followed by milk chocolate and bourbon, then nutty and coffee notes, finishing with a pronounced rum spice and lingering roasty notes. Big bodied, a bit oily, fairly smooth, and very alcoholic. Overall, it’s a BA desert stout, no doubt…. And I dig the rum spice. Well done.

Pours dark brown, dark bronze with a modest head with moderate to slow carbonation that leaves no traces on the glass. Aroma is complex, with bourbon, cherry notes and chocolate present. Taste is even more complex, with dark chocolate, and rum predominant. There is an almost wine comparison here, as if the barrels provided a profile from a barrel that saw wine at one time. The brew is smooth, sweet and goes down quickly, with little to no lingering. Booziness is appropriate for this level of ABV.

Pretty good. Strong in dark roasted malt and sweet, boozy barrel. Mild dark fruit presence. Strong alcohol, but balanced flavors. A slight oily thickness is the only weakness. I may have to search out more by Bombastic.

16oz can from Boise Co-op. Black pour, still, tiny brown ring of head. Boozy, sweet aroma. Taste comes in sweet, chocolate, strong. Very full, velvety mouth feel.
