BeaconsBeacons
Notes: Beacons is a Coffee Milk Stout brewed with lactose and finished on coffee and cocoa nibs. Dark as night, this stout with light up your taste buds with chocolate and coffee notes. Oats and Lactose lend the beer a smooth, creamy texture that will leave you feeling nice and cozy. The roasty quality of the dark malts help to balance the sweetness of the lactose sugar. We used cocoa nibs from Condor Chocolates in Athens, GA and a blend of Rwandan and Columbian coffee beans from Ubora in downtown Augusta.

Pours a rich dark brown with a finger of initially-fizzy khaki head that does actually last for a minute or two. It leaves a crown, but no lacing.

Chocolate milk, diner coffee and a hint of peanut in the nose.

Less chocolate in the taste, although definitely a milk stout in terms of a lactose element. Clear nutty coffee as well. Also a hint of alcohol — which is odd for this low ABV.

Medium bodied and lightly creamy with a strong, “scraping” carbonation that effs with the finish, IMO.

This is drinkable, but the ingredients seemed stale and the carb level was a negative to my taste. I much preferred the other brew I tried from these guys.

A: The beer is very close to being jet black in color - when held up to a bright light only traces of dark red are visible near the edges of the glass. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that slowly died down, leaving a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of lactose are present in the nose along with notes of chocolate and hints of coffee.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of lactose with hints of associated sweetness and notes of chocolate and dark malts with hints of coffee. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a bit smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is first and foremost a milk stout with some added notes/hints of coffee beans.

Presentation: 12 oz. can with the canning date printed on the label. Served in a glass coffee mug.

Appearance: The tan, half finger head stays around for a bit and leaves behind a thin foam ring an a lot of lacing in small spots. It's a deep, extremely dark brown, almost black color.

Smell: A rich, chocolatey aroma hits the nose right away, followed by some fresh brewed coffee and brown sugar. It finishes with a darker, roasted malt note in the background.

Taste: It's quite sweet, with rich, milk chocolate and vanilla at first. That's followed up by some mildly bitter cocoa powder and light roasted coffee.

Mouthfeel: It's smooth and creamy but still fairly light with medium carbonation.

Overall: The flavor is really well balanced and the scent is just amazing. An awesome coffee beer that blends all of its different ingredients very well.

12 oz can from the Wall of Beer in Clemson SC ($2.39).
Pours near black and nearly opaque with a decent beige head. Careful, well lit viewing reveals a surprising amount of suspended sediment.
Aroma. Complex but unharmonious mix of earthy hops, chocolate, stale coffee grinds and earthy spices.
The flavor largely follows but is not quite as disappointing as the aroma suggests.
Feel. Full body that has the harshness of a chili beer or of much higher ABV brew but the flavor suggests chili peppers.
