One of those really great out of the way friendly Cafés that sadly, because of its location, is not that well-known. Over the last 10 years I have been here 4 or 5 times, & it never fails to disappoint.

A large, architecturally imposing building, obviously designed with a high degree of civic pride. It is, as the name suggests, a converted Tram Station. Usually we visit this place on our way back to England, so we always stop for Beer & a decent Meal.

The first time I came here was a weekend visit to Belgium in ’95 with 9 friends, the last time was with a coach-load of 35; both times we were ably accommodated & well looked after. A top quality bar, that can impress even the hardest to please Beer Geek, &/or Foodie.

For the “Beer Geek” there are 5 or 6 beers on draft & around 130 bottled. Many regional offerings, Abbeys & Trappist beers, with some lambics from Oud Beersel & Drie Fonteinen. The list hovers around 100-130 with some changes, which always makes every visit a real pleasure.

For the “Foodie”, fare is absolutely first class. It serves everything from typical Steak, Fish & Pasta dishes, as well as local Flemish specialties. The building has been extended in recent years, with the addition of a large glass paneled Conservatory at the side of the existing brick building to accommodate the thronging masses that come for the food. If you want food, order it straight away, it always takes time to prepare – but it’s well worth the wait.

Once you order your food, & have your beer, feel free to wonder around & inspect the low key, but rather impressive, collection of Breweriana that is on display all around the main bar area- including some very interesting old Gueuze adverts.

The last time I was here on a quiet Sunday, before we left, the Landlord purchased everyone in our Coachload (of 35 people) a local beer called Buffalo; a 5.7% Stout that is made by the nearby Van Den Bossche Brewery to commemorate a visit to the village in 1907 of Buffalo Bills Circus no less!

Is it a high quality Restaurant, which serves a great range of excellent beers…?
..…or, a high quality Beer Café, which serves excellent food???
Half Full, or Half Empty - I’ll let you decide.

*Highly* Recommended for Belgium Food & Beer.
