Another day, another new Binnys. This one located just west of the Six Corners intersection of Portage Park.
The temporary signage on the front of the building didn't mention much about the rear entrance, there is no entrance on Irving Park Rd., oddly enough. After circling the building, I found the parking lot and typical hulking Binnys sign. They need one of those on the main road, as i'm sure my experience is a daily occurrence for new customers.

Inside, beer is the farthest thing from the door, which open directly into the cashier stations, like a grocery store. They have a humidor and wine cellar, maybe a rare spirits room. Lots of chilled beer on the back wall in reach-in coolers.

Selection was good, though they didn't have the beer I was looking for. Some good local representation from Lake Effect, Revolution, Off Color, Half Acre, Short Fuse, Maplewood, and more. They had all the local stuff in one section. Belgian and German selection was kind of weak, few if any traditional lambics besides Cuvee Rene. Lots of questionable eastern Euro stuff on the shelves facing the coolers. Collaborative Arts was a new brewery that just showed up in the market a couple weeks ago, the IPA was a couple months old and seemingly already faded.

A staff member was on the floor, asked if I needed help and said they didn't have that beer, and disappeared from the area like a ghost. The service desk was able to answer another stock question I had.

Overall not a bad place, worth stopping if in the area, but Fischmans just opened around the corner with a new bottle shop and (soon to open) taproom. They always had a more specialized handpicked selection than Binnys, and I hope the local NW side beer geeks support them as they did at their old location.

12/29/18 - First visit to this location, site of the previous Northwest Federal Savings Branch (and subsequent LaSalle and BOA). Large first floor space, ample wine and spirit sales. They have 4+ isles of beer sales, very good quantity and some good rarer beers that sell out quicker at other locations. Staff was courteous and on hand if one had any questions. Overall nice branch, glad I stopped in and picked up some harder to find offerings.
