I have been a few times now. The first when they were in soft opening mode, and most recently on Monday when they started their $3 happy hour for Houston beers. Now I have to always decide which Hughie's I want t o go to. This new location in the former Foreign Correspondents restaurant is great. They renovated the inside so it is much more open now. Long bar going along the back wall, and their own cocktail bar next door. The outdoor area seems to be improved and extended as well. With the reclaimed wood panels that people should be familiar with from the original. Plenty of TV's, but not a sports bar, and they are not intrusive at all. I love the build out and vibe here.
Same menu, and they also have Pho everyday now. The Banh Mi's continue to be one of my favorite sandwiches in Houston, and still at good prices for $5. Along with spring rolls, Vemicelli Bowls, shaking beef that are all staples from the original and still great. They have their own food special's and happy hours throughout the week. $3 Houston beers on Monday, $5 cocktails on Thursday, etc. Food comes out really quickly and really hot as well. Service tries to be on top of things, but like always some waitresses might be a little spotty. Others are great and take care of everything.
Selection runs from lots of Houston and Texas breweries to regional's. Saint Arnold, Lone Pint Yellow Rose, 11 Below, Live Oak Berliner Weise. Some of Baa Baa and Spindeltap NEIPA's. Currently plenty of Odell, and will be starting some brewery take overs here like at the original. Real Ale is already lined up, and will be looking forward to that. During opening week they brought out a bunch of big guns like KBS, 2013 Pumpkinator, Abyss, and Copperhead Cherry Medusa. An excellent addition to Heights proper, and one of the better beer bars in the area.
