This beer began in our brewery in May of 2021.
It saw three rounds of spirit-soaked barrels across a slew of makers: Knob Creek, Jim Beam, Stagg Jr, Blanton’s, Heaven Hill, George Dickel, 18yr Elijah Craig, 10yr Russell Reserve, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, and Willett Family Reserve Rye with fill dates of June 2021, August 2022 and finally July 2023.
Pouring hard into an oversized glass, encouraging a thick foam head, this bucket tar suffocates CO2 and light in some wicked way. It's easy to catch a glance of the aroma the second you crack the can. Burrowing down in the glass, you’re slammed with the foundation of BA stout recipes.
Oak, stout, char whiskey, complex malts, burnt sugar, and heft. Drink it down and you’re tilted into the details that make Catch Hell a legion offering from our brewery.
Cinnamon, dark cherry, nougat, birthday cake, reserve spirt, and hard-to-place neural collisions. With this one, you have to give your friends the eyes.

poured from a 12oz can into a TG DBA tumbler. pitch black, shiny with a finger of dark brown foam that fades into a thin collar around the glass. huge oak and bourbon on the nose as well as rich chocolate, cinnamon whiskey, light vanilla frosting. taste follows but the bourbon, chocolate cinnamon and vanilla mesh a little better. it’s incredibly smooth and balanced. it’s not an adjunct bomb nor a barrel bomb and the chocolate-forward base stout is very much there and well integrated into the whole picture. thick, full mouthfeel with a slick, smooth finish. coats the mouth and is so rich and decadent. a huge beer than i had huge expectations for and it delivered big time.

Canned 1/16/24; drank 2/12/24 @ the Yarchives.
Midnight black appearance.
A slow pour yielded a small, noisy dark tan head; no lacing remained.
Vanilla, cinnamon, milk chocolate, booze heat & faint oak notes in the nose.
Thick, creamy mouthfeel with a sticky finish.
Vanilla & milk chocolate flavors up front; mild cinnamon, wood & booze heat notes on the finish.
Not too cinnamon forward, thankfully; it's balanced, boozy & damn tasty. One of the better "adjuncted" Half Acre beers in a while.

12oz can, dated 01.27.2022, poured into a Half Acre "occult" snifter glass.
The beer pours an incredibly thick and oily jet black color, maximum opacity, sludge into a glass with faint remnants of a khaki head that offer no retention nor lacing. The aroma is intoxicating, huge bursts of chocolate, charred oak, toffee and caramel forward bourbon, light spicing, vanilla marshmallow, graham cracker, while cinnamon lingers so nicely. The flavors are exceptionally presented and balanced. Layer and layer of fudge and chocolate cake, vanilla marshmallow, chewy and earthier oak, smooth bourbon, lots of caramel, brown sugar and toffee, stone fruits, coconut, graham cracker, dark brown malt and a nice dry cinnamon that keeps things from being too rich while amplifying the decadent flavor profiles. It's a tightrope walk that is traversed with expert precision. The mouthfeel is wonderful, huge heavy body, super thick and viscous, coating, creamy, velvety with a warm and creamy finish.
Verdict: A total triumph. The flavor profile reads rich, sweet, and decadent on paper but in practice is approachable, balanced, layered, offering depth and complexity. The barrel character is fantastic offering char, earthiness, sweetness and a range of spirit flavors while the cinnamon helps dry the beer out a bit and avoids being cloying. An exceptional beer all around. Very memorable.
