A- pours a clear bright golden color. Poured into a pilsner glass, the foam holds very short. For a style that i consider to be boring, it is boring.
Smell - Grains, malts, skunk, corn
Taste-dry and bitter
I admit that i expected more,and i got less.

Brought this beer back about a year ago whilst visiting Budapest. The beer poured a clear golden yellow with initial foamy head that is quickly dissipating and not leaving much of a lace. The scent is mostly a grainy malt. The taste has almost a sweet corn base with slight grass like hop. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a beer and I like beer.

A: Transparent amber red, soda like carbonation, quickly disappating, 2 finger head.
S: Has a sour quality, sweet, syrupy, cherry.
T: Not very sweet. However it does remind me of a soda if a soda wasn't sweet. Alcohol isn't very present. Most dominant flavor is the malt, but it's quite mellow.
M: Mild sting, slightly astringent.
O: Not great but drinkable.

Hand-carried from Budapest to Vienna (thanks, Bob!), the tall brown half liter bottle has a long neck and a white and red label featuring a coat of arms on top of a circle around the name. My Hungarian is not good enough to decipher ingredient information. Best by 3/30/07, I opened it on 2/11/07.

Pours clear and slightly pale under a 1/2 finger off-white head that fades immediately, leaving no lace and not even much of a collar. The nose is grainy sweet, probably of adjuncts. The mouth is light and very prickly. The taste is pretty standard macro, with sweet malt and metallic hops. The bitter edge lasts long into the aftertaste, but its tinny nature detracts from the pleasantness. Very avoidable brew.

Bought in Budapest

A: Pours a light golden body with three fingers of white fluffy head. Retention is pour and has minimal lacing.

S: Faint malt notes and straw grains. Smells typical of a poor lager.

T: As thought, notes of malts and straw come through. Not the most pleasing of tastes.

M: Light bodied and medium carbonation. I felt the carbonation was to high for this, as the texture was very froathy. Aftertaste consisted of off straw like notes.

O: Even for the 1.20 this cost me, I wouldn't buy it again.

Poor taste, low carbonation, now smell at all. Classic mass -produced lager.

The beer is a pale European Lager from Szeged, Hungary.
Very light in color and smell.
The taste is OK but nothing spectacular. Pale malts dominate the weak palate. There is hardly any hop aroma present.
Considering the prize I did not expect much and was not disappointed by what I got. It is drinkable but nothing noteworthy.

Light golden colour with large carbonation bubbles, small, but stable head and some lacing.

The smell is a bit sweet malty and sour, some hints of lemon. Taste is better, it feels sweetish bitter with mild bittery and slightly metallic aftertaste.

Mouth is fizzy and quite thin. It is quite drinkable - this beer is comparably cheap in Budapest and I expected it will be much worse.

Reviewed from notes taken in Summer 2014.

Served on-draught into a .5L krug in Budapest.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: ~2 fingers worth of white coloured froth. Okay creaminess, decent thickness. Average consistency and complexion for the style. Leaves spotty inconsistent lacing as it recedes. Above average (~3 minute) retention.

BODY: Clear pale yellow. Clean, lacking any visible yeast particulate or sediment. Obviously filtered. Average vibrance.

Appears adequately carbonated. Not a unique or special appearance by any means.

AROMA: Pilsner malts, helles malts, barley, and maybe some generic floral hop character.

I detect no overt yeasty notes, nor any off-notes or booze.

An inoffensive aroma of below average intensity.

TASTE: Pilsner malts, helles malts/Munich malt, barley. That's really it. Balance is okay at best. Cohesive enough, but not a gestalt harmonious whole of a beer. Pleasant though unremarkable.

Very simple, with no nuance or subtlety to it. To style, there are no yeasty notes or off-notes (clean ester-free lager yeast is indicated). Clean drinking, with average depth, duration, and intensity of flavour. I do like it in a general sense, but it's not going for much.

MOUTHFEEL: Smooth, wet, clean, light-bodied, slightly overcarbonated, and unrefreshing. Decent presence on the palate.

Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.

OVERALL: Easy to drink, but not a good beer within its style. Pretty basic fare, and not really worth trying. It's hard not to be dismissive of such a generic attempt at the style, but it's not bad for what it is.

Marketed as ”The Beer of Budapest” by the Dreher brewery.

The colour is pale golden yellow. The large foam slowly sinks down to a white lid, leaving some lacing and a ring.

The smell is slightly malty and a little bit sour. There are some bitter notes of chalk and lime. There is a weak note of pulp. The smell is stronger than the average euro lager.

The taste got more malt than expected: The body is medium strong, and there is a fine sweetish flavour that slowly fades away leaving room for a mild bitterness and some notes of broth. The aftertaste is light, but it is balanced with notes of fresh malt and some flowery hops.

The carbonation is a notch weaker than the standard for this style, making it even more gulpable.

A higly drinkable beer, a beer I miss from my time in the Hungarian capital. A half litre bottle costs approximately US$ 0.50.

The waitress at the bar in Budapest gave my friend and me a funny look when we ordered Arany Aszok, and now I know why. I think it is Hungary's version of Milwaukee's Best. Very cheap and not very good. I would definitely spend a few extra Forints and order a Dreher.
