350 ml can from Himeji on bullet train to Shin-Osaka. BB date stamp of 11-2018.
Clear amber colored body with high clarity topped by a tall, fluffy white head that leaves loads of sudsy lacing.
Flavor & Aroma: Mild-moderately bitter for style. Good balance with some sweetening malts evident in an appropriately hop-forward mix. Spicy, herbal, and floral notes from the hops. Leans towards English IPA style.

L: golden, hazy, thin head retained, for about 15 minutes, a little lacing

S: Straight out of the can, it had a nice hop aroma, that faded

T: It is a nice, light, refreshing pale ale, although nothing remarkable

Feel: Light, light carbonation, smooth

O: It started full of promise, but it was less remarkable than was hoping for, but it is a good quality, refreshing brew, with just a hint of that Japanese style of beer. It seems more like something between a Japanese lager and a pale ale. It is almost like they used lager malts and hops, but brewed it with an ale yeast. So not bad.

Bottle at Wagamama, New York, NY

A: The beer is crystal clear amber yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high frothy white head that slowly died down and left a short head covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of herbal hops are present in the nose along with hints of floral hops.
T: The taste has flavors of herbal and floral hops with strong notes of caramel malts. There is a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a lot of herbal hops, which isn't as common compared to most other IPAs, but they are not overly strong.

330ml can served in a little hotel glass. Ag/14 20180425 is printed on the bottom of the can. I suspect that means that August 14 2018 is the "best by" date.

Pours a clear golden amber with a big head that fades fast to a medium to small head, medium lacing, and moderate carbonation. Smell is old hay, hops, bitterness, grapefruit.

Taste is strong bitterness -- pine and grapefruit variety. Not a lot else.

Mouthfeel is dry, crisp, clean. Overall, pretty good. Not world class, but not bad.

I think I haven't had anything from Echigo brewery before, although they say that they are the first micro brewery in Japan.
Their Flying IPA has really cool graphics on the can of a flying dragon, reminds me of late 80's skateboard graphics.
It starts off quite nicely with a dark, golden amber color and does smell quite hoppy and pine. The taste is also quite well balanced between round malts and hops, along with aroma, bittering hops play a major role here. The piney taste becomes quite intense and turns into bitterness in the end.
I like overall how this beer was, although it is more bitter than the West Coast originals, nevertheless is it enjoyable and punchy. A good, bitter IPA.
