Appearance: nice deep amber body with a bone white two finger head; spotty lacing; almost ruddy brown on the second half of the bottle

Aroma: very nice aromatic nose; orange peel spice, a little summer stone fruit with a good touch of spring floral

Flavors: follows the nose, aromatic hops, floral, hint of lemon grass, undertone of stone fruit, light earthy yeast

Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, medium body, light bitterness on the back and aftertaste, light earthy yeast lingers on the palate

To the Point: a tasty ale, sorry it’s not a hop bomb, I will buy a couple more on my next visit.

Pours a dirty, muddied orange colour, quite cloudy. Head is a lovely colour with great texture. Bit over-generous but sinks steadily, leaving nice rivulets of crusty lace around the glass. If it's meant to be sedimenty, we've got a badass beer over here (blind tasting, full disclosure).

Smells extremely fruity. Peachy and apricot, quite like aromatic malt. Slight funky earth, little bit dank and bitter underneath. But overall smells fairly simple, fruity with a touch of tang. Nice, but screaming out for more grunt.

Taste is similarly fruity, with a real candied edge to it. Peach, apricot and orange peel on there that ultimately gets sweeter and then disappears, leaving a disappointing, short palate, with aromatic fruit esters and little else in the way of body or complexities. Maybe slight rank flavour late-mid, but it could just be the disappearing of fruit into watery nothingness. Quite meh.

Decent presence in the mouth really, at least upfront. Dries up quickly and leaves no remembrance of what was there by the end.

Disappointing, really. Flavours are decent but it does nothing with them, like giving really excellently-crafted nunchukus to a ninja with no arms.

Not sure what part of Japan this beer was made from, but likely near the site of the compromised Fukusma reactor. Found this on my local managers special table for pick a six. I can see why. This was the worst beer I have ever tasted. I had to spit it out and get a Coors light. I cannot explain the characteristics. It was not good. I hope this batch was just bad. It retailed at $7 for 16.9 oz. I got it for half price. The bottle was just bad.

Huge head that recedes slowly with a solid frothy dome. Takes a while to dissipate. Too much really. The liquid is golden amber color with a chill haze. It leaves some chunky lace on the glass.

Mild alcohol and hop aroma. Low pale malt smell.

Starts with a yeasty malt flavor, but quickly yields to the hop bitterness, but it is mild for an IPA. Full bodied and highly carbonated, which seems to work.

Poured into an imperial pint glass. Color was a bit reddish in nature, a fairly ligh color. Had a cloudy haze with plenty of carbonation rising to refill the foamy off white head. Predominant smell was a herby citrus. Maybe some citrus. Very slightly sweet, but finished with a bit of bitterness. Taste started off pleasant, a bit of malt, but shifted to a slightly sour flavor before changing back to a bit of hoppy. The sour was offputing and unexpected. Seemed to mellow as the beer sat over time. Felt good in the mouth, tongue tingled nicely from the carbonation, and a bit of chew. Start and finish definitely show potential, but the middle sour flavor was just too bizarre to rate higher overall.

Purchased in CA, some time ago, I may add, and then put off drinking it for a long time, as I got less and less enthusiastic about Japanese beers after some pretty poor Echigo efforts.

Pours foamy, mostly thick off-white egg-shell head, collapsing after a while to form a sudsy, crackling, clumping lace. Body is cloudy and dull orange, fluid, with a bit of oomph behind it. Eh, can't say I'm overly impressed overall.

Nose is sweetly fruity, giving some characters of pineapple and lychee, with a peppery overbite. There's something a little less pleasant underneath—slightly vegetal and earthy—which puts me off a bit. It's just not that bright, believable freshness I feel it could be.

Taste is similar. It has sweet fruity characters on the front, leaving some canned pineapple flavours, and a touch of peach, before there's an upswell in that peppery, earthy character, that gives it a slight kelp and bell pepper savoury earthiness on the back. It's not all unpleasant, but it's a bit muddled, and the combination of the two characters doesn't work all that well.

It's not a bad beer, and it has some interest to it. But it's not to my tastes, and it feels as though it really doesn't know what it wants to be. In the end, that leaves me confused as well.

This brew poured out as a nice looking golden copper color with a foamy white head on top. The lacing was nice and sticky on the glass. The smell of the beer was hoppy and full of citrusy pine notes. The taste had some nice undertones of caramel while the main flavor was the bitter hops doing what they do best. The mouthfeel of the beer was medium bodied with a strong tingly sensation on the tongue. Overall I thought this was a pretty good brew from Japan, I was pleasantly surprised with it.
