PilsnerPilsner
Notes: Czech out Redhook’s newest brew. Redhook Pilsner is crisp, golden lager that is modeled after those historic beers originally made in Plzeň, Czechoslovakia. Redhook Pilsner’s maltiness is offset by a medium dose of Saaz hops and finishes with a clean, bright, thirst-quenching quality. A great “session” lager for when you’ve got a long day ahead of drinking.

Bottled on 4/22/10, consumed 6/10/10.

A: Poured into a pilsner glass. Stopped pouring to see how much head I'd get, then when I poured in the last ounce or so, there was some fine sediment that added a haze to the top of the glass. I can see it in suspension throughout now, after it settled. . . . Body is light golden with a 1-finger white head over top. Some splotchy lace sticks to the glass, but not a lot.

S: Faint cereal grains. Slight fruitiness.

T: Odd. Something seems off but I'm not sure what it is. Am I getting wet cardboard? Anyhow, there's a bit of grain up front, a bit of fruity sweetness (could that be corn?) and some slight hop grassiness in the back. Also a major minerally taste that lingers into the aftertaste, though at times the sweetness comes back.

M: Thin. Watery.

D: Ice cold after mowing the lawn while in the shower this wouldn't be horrible, but I wouldn't buy this.

I bought a six-pack of Rope Swing in a grocery store. $6.49. Poured in to a pilsner glass.

Pours a straw yellow color and is clear. Torrents of bubbles are rising and swirling in the glass. Modest one-finger frothy white head, leave some dainty lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell is sweet, with a fruity, candy, perfume like aroma. In some respects it has a banana a clove scent of a Bavarian hefe.

The taste is a corn cracker flavor, with a sweet spiciness along side, and a dry bitter finish. It has a lot more flavor than I was expecting of the style.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp. A good thirst quencher on a hot day for sure.

A drinkable brew and I'd go back to it in the summer, especially on sale. A good lawnmower beer.

22 oz bomber pours a very clear, light gold color with an average cap of white head. Not bad...love the price at less than $2.75 a pop.

Nose is light floral and herbal hops with a bit of graininess and pancake batter from the malt. Pretty good aroma, balanced and even has some nutty lager yeast to it.

Little less hop presence in the flavoring department than I was hoping for, but it is fairly clean and smooth. The grains are well presented and dont feel the least bit flabby or thin...in fact, the body is quite nice. Just enough bitterness on the finish to clean things up. A solid beer that does nothing to offend, but its also not a pilsner that really shines out from the crowd, either. A sixer of this would be a welcome addition to anyones fridge who appreciates a good throwdown brew once and a while.

12oz bottle

A- Pours a clear golden yellow color with a fizzy white head that quickly disappears.

S- The aroma is light pilsner malt and faint hops. Not much else to mention, pretty faint.

T- The taste like the aroma starts out with faint light pilsner malts with a mild bitterness from the hops in the crisp finish. Not all that flavorful but very clean and easy drinking with not any off-flavors.

M- The mouthfeel is light bodied with a high amount of carbonation.

D- Overall, this is not the most exciting pilsner but it serves it's purpose as an easy drinking summer session beer. Would hold up decently well at outdoor summer cookouts and tailgates.

A - Poured out a clear, bubbly golden color with a small, fizzy, white head of foam. It left a little soapy lace on the sides of the glass.

S - It smelled of grains, caramel and some floral hops.

T - Nice crisp sweetness with a strong caramel flavor. Some mild toffee flavors blend with grains and a grassy hop presence.

M - It was sharp and crackled on the tongue. A light bodied and very easy drinking brew.

D - This is a pretty solid Czech Pils. It has the look of a great pilsener and brings a good flavor, too.

brewed on 5/4/10 consumed on 6/24/10

Looks clear golden color with a nice flow of carbonation and a really healthy, fluffy, slow-dissipating clean-white head.

Earthy, peppery hop and yeast aroma. More earthy grains and a tangy crispness. Dried wheat, corn husks in the hot sun, corn on the cobb maltiness and a bit of sweet malt. Great aromatic balance.

This one starts off clean and full of earthy, natural flavor's like dried corn from the cobb, golden wheat, earthy grains. The yeast adds a rightous hit of earthiness, peppery garden greens and subtle sour notes but all in perfect balance..>>> A really nice balance except the malt might have too much lingering sweetness<<<, slightly cloying, mostly clean and crisp, light but as time passes the quality slips and it becomes more malty and heavy. UPDATE:new fancy bottle: brewed on 3/22/11. This one is a classic, the malty sweetness is toned down and only, clean and crisp flavor's prevail here. the finish is crystal clean, refreshing and ultra crispy and it doesn't seem to downgrade as time passes. either this one is much fresher than my previous review's sample or the recipe has been slightly tweeked...for the better. I'm in love.

This one is quality. brewed perfectly to style this time around light and bright flavor's...gentle herbs, garden greens and crispy malt makes this one tough to put down!

22 oz bottle dated May 2, 2012

A- classic Pilsener appearance, crystal clear golden straw color with a foamy bright white head with no retention.

S- a pleasing but faint combination of clean malt and some spicy hop notes.

T- like the nose, nothing here really stands out but but there is a well rounded malt and hop balance that gives an overall richness that is very appealing.

M- carbonation is spot on with medium body. For a subdued nose and flavor profile, this is not at all watery. Smooth and soft all the way through.

O- a great Pilsener for a warm summer day. Refreshing, slightly dry and very easy to quaff. I look forward to trying this on tap.

12oz bottle purchased at Shaw's in North Hampton. Pours a Slightly hazy straw-yellow with about a half inch of head. Smell is rather subdued but some malt is wafting from the glass. Caramel and chocolate malt flavors mesh pretty well with a slightly grassy herbal hop presence, though all the flavors are pretty subdued. Light bodied with moderate carbonation. A simple easy-drinker. Nothing more, nothing less.
