L: bright copper gold with a massive 3" off-white cap with good retention.
S: It has a spicy aroma featuring the cilantro and epazote that go very well with the moderate fermentation character and the light malts.
T: the flavors have an interesting blend of spice, black pepper, fruit, tropical and savory. The yeast character dominates but the added spices and honey provide strong support.
F: Medium light body, above average carbonation.
O: The brewer gets points for thinking this up and executing it so well. Very drinkable and repeatable.

On tap at the restaurant at the San Diego Museum of Art.
I had this with mildly spicy curry fries and a mild soup. This did what a saison should, it went with a variety of herby and spicy foods. The Aniversario Looks fine almost amber in the glass. It Smells fruity and herby, tho not hoppy. It balances all these ingredients for the food can work the glands also. And it cleansed the palate for another bite.
Since this was the brewer's first anniversary, my only suggestion is to work on the yeast and the grain will become more fruity and interesting. Otherwise, a good example of a difficult style to learn.
My first from SouthNorte, I went on their website and was impressed by their efforts of finding new fusions in the kitchens from both sides of the border. A thoughtful concept, I look forward to their 2nd Aniversario offering.

The first sip made me wonder if there is something more to this than the Belgian yeast, and reading the label the brewer says this is made with Mexican honey, epazote, and "dry hopped with cilantro." It does have some honey character and the herbs add a distinctive but mysterious layer of flavor.
Clear amber color, quite attractive in the Pilsner glass. Rich and spicy like a Tripel. This is an intriguing brew in the Saison style and well worth trying. Not as expensive as a lot of other "special" brews. From capped 750 ml bottle purchased at Barons Market.
