300 ml bottle, as Gulpener Ur-Hop IPA, from Bio Station Store, Antwerpen Centraal. 100% organic and local. ABV is 6%. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of floral and herbal hops, a hint of citrus too. The flavour has sufficient malts and citric hops, also notes of spicy / herbal hops in the finish.

This is a nice fruity hoppy lager. Probably one of the best IPL I ever had. It paired nicely with my spicy Thay basil beef, but also stands on its own.

Look: Pale orange, somewhat hazy. Head is decent.
Smell: mainly hops, fruity and bitter. Some malt backbone.
Taste: in the line, hops bitterness with some tropical fruit character, plus malty sweetness. A bit more malty than expected for a lager, yet the typical lower-key profile is there. Overall very good for a supermarket beer.
Feel: as per style, light bodied, easy to drink, not cloying at all yet no real astringency. Very good.
Overall: a very respectable supermarket beer. Worth the try and good to have a six-pack handy.

I discovered this beer on a month-long stay in Amsterdam.....

Gulpener is a large independent Dutch brewer competing with Heineken and Grolsch. Situated in south NL --- smack dab between Belgian monastery country and the north end of the German "golden triangle". Great brewing neighbourhood.

Ur-Hop is an IPL and part of Gulpener's organic beer line.

Pours a moderately cloudy gold.....but a quick swirl of the bottle releases the bottom yeasty/hoppy sediment to create an opaque curtain.
The head is most wondrous.....thick,off-white, creamy, and piled to the roof. And it lasts!!
Carbonation is impressive.
Aroma is robust and hoppy.
Very filling and substantial taste.
A fantastic beer for the money at 0.81 euros for a 30cl bottle, and a really different beer in the land of watery pilseners.
(....and Gulpener's pilsner is also tastier than Heineken or Grolsch).

gulpener often promises a decent beer soft palate also provided this time for a lower fine hoppy aroma and taste good alternative to comercial pilsner, but tell me taste soft and bland but good lager hops

This is an unfiltered, dry-hopped lager that pours slightly cloudy. It is amber colored with a thick, creamy head. The carbonation is modest. It has a nice hoppy nose but is soft and creamy on the palate. Nice hints of bitterness, but not enough to make me think of an IPL! The bitterness is softer and more hesitant than expected. Floral hops are evident, though. The slight bitterness and the floral hops linger nicely. Good malt as well. Beautiful lace is formed. It has a medium, creamy, body. As I empty the glass, the bitterness is catching up with me. It is delicious and easy to drink. I would seek this out again. BA lists as American Pale Lager which is more accurate than what the label suggests, viz., India Pale Lager.
