A crystal clear and shiny gold look with ample carbonation and some sticky lace on the glass.

Smells malty sweet and somewhat grainy and salty, with a delicate fruity note and a soft dusty presence. Hops are effective, yet in a very subdued fashion. A simple and natural, clean nose altogether with exceptionally little hop character for a Pilsener.

A malty taste with a refreshing sour ending and a big bitter-dry aftertaste in which malt remains a factor and hops silently have a say. It's definitely the finish that makes this beer good. Clean is the overall impression once again and although the brew is somewhat neutral, I'm enjoying it in its purity and for its simplicity.

Low and precise carbonation lets emphasis fall on the malty smoothness of the rounded medium body (extra clean water).

I had this beer from tap a while back and remember it being more hoppy then. A nice creation.

On-tap at Brasserie L'Anders, Haarlem, Netherlands

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high bright white head that died down and consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Aromas of pilsener malts are present in the nose along with hints of floral hops.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has flavors of pilsener malts along with a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink but isn't as complex compared to other pilseners.

Brown 33cl bottle, the second Pilsner in a 'Pilsner/lager reviewing evening' 23 Oct 2010.

Poured into a 'Veltins' tulip glass. Regular Lager/Pilsner looks, golden, clear, bright and clean. The head (snow white) soon fell away though.

Gets my standard score of three for an almost odourless lager/pilsner.

A little sweeter than the normal Euro lagers and has some body compared to the major producers and many German ones.

A pleasant Pilsner and if it was sunny outside I'd have a couple before I had a proper beer!

For some reason I am fond of Gulpener, maybe because I don't find it so often in my local supermarket, maybe because the first crate I bought came with some tupil bulbs..
Appearance is typical for a pilsner, golden yellow colour with a two finger head, average retention, and quite an activity in the glass.Smells as any other cheap lager out there, this is not how I remember it, or I wasn't as educated in beer as before I join BA. Drinking it out the bottle played its role too.
Taste is better but nothing above the average, slighty bitter and malty.
Average thickness and carbonation on the body, leaves some dryness on the palate.
Overall, pleasantly drinkable but Gulpener has better ones to offer, then again if you just want a pilsnerer this will cover you. And as their slogan is "To the future" (where hopefully this beer wil improve a bit).

A darkish golden beer with a small head that leaves lacing on the glass.

Smell is grainy with clean pilsmalt notes, maltiness is low. The smell is somewhat vegetables. Hoppiness is low.

Taste is clean with a good body and light hoppy whiffs. The vegetables in the smell are present and in my side-by-side comparison of Dutch pilsners this is the one that sticks out in this veggie taste. I never tasted it in this beer before. Bitterness is low.

Enjoyed overlooking a canal in Haarlem, paired nicely with a small salad and French fries.

Golden yellow with a small head; light carbonation from what I'd expect but the flavor makes up for it. Delicious pilsner malt and bready undertones, nice and sweet but crisp and dry and drinkable. Definitely not a hopped-up American version, which is probably why the average score for this beer seems suspiciously low to me. Oh well, to each his own! Prost!

We pour a brew of pale straw. It holds a half finger tall crisp white head of tiny bubbles. This shows poor retention and leaves tiny spots of lacing around the glass, with big aggregates atop the liquid. Carbonation appears light, and no sediment or haze is noted. The aroma is of pale wheaty grain, adjuncts, tin, and dry table crackers. There is a light cutting bitterness of lemon rind, with bitter grassiness on the far back. Our first impression is that this isn’t bad, but it certainly is a malt bomb. The flavoring opens with metal and minerals, with thick barley and wheat. These power us through to the peak, where white sugar and toast cut for the balance. The faintest grassy hoppiness appears, lasting long enough to pull us to the finish, where the hops becomes more aromatic, citric, and bitter. Fusel booziness, sour grain, and green apple sweetness all mix in for the finish. The aftertaste breathes of bitter grass, chemical phenols, hollow chalk, cereal grains, and sour lactics. The body is lighter, and the carbonation is medium, but palpably prickly. The mouth is astringently dried, with a chalky coating. Each sip affords crisp slurp and cream, with nice puck and swallow. The abv is appropriate, and the beer drinks decently.

Overall, what we found to be the best thing about this brew was the clean, crisp, and simple flavoring. While adjuncts were present throughout, they never became overwhelming. There was a nice mix of balancing hops as well. The appearance and aroma fell through, as both were rather mild, and seemingly oversimplified.
