Purely an English Pub. Very cool location, perched on top of a stone wall next to El Indio. Big, wooden house with a massive wrap-around patio. Farmhouse/country village pub interior; wooden tables, mismatched chairs, various knicknacks on the walls. Darts, but no pool tables. Soccer is always on, and this is one of the key places for the Premier and Champions League and UEFA Cup, to the point that it gets packed to the gills. Decent English beer selection (Fullers, Youngs, Boddingtons), with the usual Irish offerings (Smithwicks, Guinness, Harp). Authentic English pub fare, love the Scottish egg. Great scotch selection, for a beer bar. Prices are average. Mellow, except when a match is on.

The best thing about this pub is that they have Fullers ESB on tap. Of course, by the time you read this they may not anymore. But they do often have at least one hard to find (for San Diego) English ale on tap (if they don't while you're there, you might want to skip this place). Other than that they've got Boddingtons, Guiness, Harp, Bass, cider . . . the usual.
The decor is a nice simulation of an English pub. The bartender is usually British and more often than not some English ex-pats or tourists are there. I don't know, I like the atmosphere, there are big flat panel tv's which make this a good place for watching sports and a large outdoor patio. There is a really small parking lot behind the pub, you can rarely find parking there, but it's worth a shot.
The food is . . . British food, okay, don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. Word to the wise, avoid the curry. Service is usually good, just depends. For what you get its not a bargain, but its a nice change of pace.

Update 6/04: I have a big huge beef with this place. My physician resident union had a party there, and I arrived without a CA ID, just my picture IDs from work. The waitress and then the manager refused to serve me because I had no CA ID on me. I am no Doogie Howser. I am Asian and I look young but not like a 20yr old. All residents have completed hs, undergrad, med school and there's no way a doc can be under 21. They gave me the old story about, what if the vice squad comes in. And that's bs because if I had to, I could get any of my friends to get my CA ID in 15 minutes. What ticks me off is that 15 minutes later, 2 co-workers who were white and young-looking (30 yrs old), they came in and sat and ordered without showing ID. This kind of treatment is such a shame. I love the fact that they carry Fuller's ESB and London Pride, but other than that there is no redeeming value to that place at all.
---
The only place I've found so far that has Fuller's London Pride on tap. Woohoo! I believe they have the ESB, too. Guinness, Boddington's, etc. Not the greatest selection but they have my London Pride. Served in British pint glasses to the top. Sit outside to get a view of San Diego over the highway and into the ocean and horizon, but there's only one heatlamp... Inside there's TVs for soccer and darts or something. Lots of British beer memorabilia. Nice restroom deco. Lots of ppl with British and Irish accents.
The food is pretty crappy though. My friends ordered the potpie and the curry, both of which were inedible. I hear the Fish&Chips and shepard's pie(?) are decent.
Overall, decent atmosphere. Sit outside on a warm night. If you like Fuller's and Guinness, you're set.

Stopped here with some friends a few years back while vacationing in San Diego. British Pub atmosphere. We sat on the outside deck on a warn, bright and sunny mid-afternoon in April while enjoying a few pints of Harp and some Black & Tans. Beer selection seemed to be the typical macro imports that are readily available at most other places. As far as the food goes, I can't speak for the main entrees, but we did order the Fresh Cut Chips, which were served with malt vinegar. So good, in fact that we placed a second order. We had a decent time here before heading off to the Gas Lamp Quarter.
