Pours a very deep mahogany color with a small head that is gone in seconds, leaving almost no lacing. Carbonation is minimal.

Sweet, dark fruit evident in the nose. Alcohol is also very present, with some caramel tones.

Taste is big raisin, dark fruit. Overpoweringly sweet. Caramel and bready yeast follow it up. Alcohol is too much along with the cloying dark sweetness.

Mouthfeel is oily and alcoholic. Not very carbonated. Lingers on the tongue with an astringent feeling.

Not a very drinkable ale. I did not enjoy this one.

Appearance: Clear, deep red in color, with a moderate tan head, which retains well. The lacing is somwhat thin and patchy, the carbonation moderate.

Aroma: Lots of caramel and toasted malt, with a definite toasted dark bread note. Modest herbal hops round out the aroma.

Taste: Opens with robust, slightly tart malt notes, toasted bread, biscuit and caramel flavors are present. The Munich malt offers its notable, slightly tangy, sour note to good effect. As the taste progresses, a moderate herbal hop presence ascends, although against the malt, it serves as an accompaniment, never dominating. The taste finishes with a long, lingering tart malt note, with a mild herbal hop presence.

Mouth feel: Soft and full, with moderate carbonation felt.

Drinkability/notes: Very well done, a well-made, quite malty example that showcases the Munich malt quite well.

Presentation: Packaged in a twenty-ounce (650 ml) brown glass bomber with a pry-off crown, served in a Samuel Adams Boston Lager sensory glass.
