16oz can brewed & packaged by Urban Chestnut St. Louis, MO. There's a tiny stamp of 21-10-25 on the bottom which I can only assume makes this can about 14 weeks old. Five percent ABV per label and poured at 40° Fahrenheit into a stange glass. The beer pours hefe-hazy, nearly opaque in a honey amber color. The head is very light khaki and settles to wide ring and uneven cap. Slight lacing. The aroma is mild with pils malt, honey and orchard fruit. The taste is more of the same with pear, apple and slight honey sweetness laid over pale malt with a grassy, floral hop finish. Medium bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good beer. A good bit different than a standard kolsch with bold flavors and the mouthfeel that comes from unfiltered beer.

Hazy, amber color. one finger thick , white head . Grain, fruits and grass in aroma. Malty, grainy but not too sweet taste with hoppy bitterness at the end.

 

 

 

 

 

16oz can pours a slightly hazy and very rich golden yellow-orange color with a fizzy head of white-colored foam that disappears fairly quickly. Smells of almost nothing. Maybe barely a hint of malt and hops? Light and fairly thin bready malt flavor with a hint of honey and a moderate hop flavor that is strongly citrusy and only very slightly herbal. Slight sweetness, light-to medium body, small bitterness, lightly bitter aftertaste, and a moderately bubbly carbonation mouthfeel.

I didn't really like this. The apparent inclusion of citrusy American hops (Citra, maybe?) almost completely ruins the experience if this is meant to be a fairly traditional Kölsch. The bitterness is not so overbearing, but the hop flavor makes this beer come off much more like an American Pale Ale than a Kölsch. Won't buy again.

 

 

No visible bottling date. Looks the part, smells the part. I suspect I may have an older bottle, but cannot confirm based on past experience with older kolsch bottles and can. Extremely sweet and tart, bordering on the wild ale spectrum. Based on other reviews, that seems to be the norm. Decent offering, but if tart apples is what the brewer was going for, then I am not sure if this is something I will pick up again.

Poured at fridge temp into a willi glass

Pours a seedy and cloudy golden straw color with lots of particulate. Eggshell/light sandy head that settles into a ring. Slow and lazy rising carbo and lots of cloudy particulate. 4.25

Aroma is light and grainy grassy, and grainy sweetness. Some malt starts to peek out as it was up. 4

Light and lightly toasted malts, noble hops, white bread, touch of bready sweetness. Really good old world beer imo. 4.25

Mild carbo, leaning toward the gentler side with a soft smooth body. Frothy, crushable and dry finish. 4.25

Overall a maltier and hoppier leaning kölsch but absolutely enjoyable and crushable. 4.25

It pours a slightly hazy pale gold with a nice firm head of foam, lacing seems to be good.

I get some bread, grassy hops, light fruitiness, like apples and grapes in the smell.

Swishing the beer in my mouth, the fruitiness is more obvious. Apples and grapes, both sweetish and lightly tart, lemon, followed by some bread and a medium amount of grassy hops. I seem to miss the complexity when I just drink.

Good mouthfeel, quite a nice Kolsch.

 

 

I picked up this cold 16 oz can in Pennsylvania while visiting family over the 4th of July weekend.
Im pouring the can at fridge temp into my .3L stange. Date stamp is very small and printed yellow (?) so its hard to read, but I think it says 11-25-2021. So this can could be 8ish months old.
I also didnt notice when I bought the can that it is contract brewed in St Louis by Urban Chestnut Brewing.
the beer pours a hazy straw color with a fluffy bleached white head of 1 cm foaming up. This foam sticks around as a thin surface covering throughout the sampling. An occasional couple bubbles of carbonation rise from the bottom of the glass. Not very active and the unfiltered component is apparent as it sits in my glass.
The aroma is some bready notes with a bit of grass and some white grape and apple notes. Not green apple, think a sweeter variety, like gala.
First sip reveals a light body with smooth texture and fine prickly carbonation.
Flavor is some bready notes and then white grape and more apple notes here too. I get a bit of grassy and herbal tea flavor on the finish that adds just a little bitterness. Finish also dries out considerably after each sip.
This seems like an ok example of the style. I wonder if a side by side with a German brewed example would reveal any differences?

Pours a slightly cloudy golden color. Lovely thick, frothy white head forms on the beer, lingers, then dissipates leaving just a thin layer of white foam on top of the beer. Aroma has notes of sweet malts, white bread, some light grassy hops, and a touch of fruity esters.

Taste follows the nose with notes of white grape, sweet apple juice, some grainy malts notes and white bread, with fruity esters and some grassy hop notes. This is weird ... It's really fruity and quite sweet - to a degree I was not expecting and do not particularly care for. Feel is medium bodied, smooth, but not crisp at all. The unfiltered character comes through providing a bit of chewiness.

Overall its an okay kölsch - I doubt I would pick this one up again.

 

Light yellow body, clear and sparkling; dense and lively carbonation; thick, white head, dense and creamy. Fine, light malt nose; notes of cracker with a mild herbal quality. Mild grain base taste, cracker and biscuit; mild to moderate hop bitterness with a touch of herbal spiciness. Medium body; crisp; light combination of sweetness and dryness on the palate.

Contract brewed (I assume) and nicely done. There is a bit of ale roughness in the mouthfeel while the taste is nicely balanced with light malt and a slightly bold hop bitterness and taste. The looks are really nice. A great little beer...

500ml bottle into a tall glass. No freshness dating. Label reports being brewed and bottled in Germany

Interesting look (unfiltered) hazy amber body. Small white head shrinks to a ring, no lacing.

Sweet malt aroma, quite bready as well.

On tasting, a fair amount going on. Sweet, malty, doughy, and a hint of lemon now and then. For all that, the overall taste is only okay.

Mouth medium, finish nears a little astringent.

Overall, could be age related (no dating). Another up and down beer, at times seems good, but the finish lingers.
