Growler filled the day before at brewpub, drank with buddy watching UO kick the crap out of University of Spoiled Children 10.30.10.

One finger white foamy head, medium-fast dissipation with some lacing retained. Light amber body, some rising carbonation. Nose is citrusy goodness, balanced with bready and caramel malts, perhaps some Munich for dryness. Taste is hoppy for style, no surprise here from the King of Hoppy Beers, sweet in the middle, grapefruity with resiny bitterness on back end. Yum. Mouthfeel is medium-full, good effervescence, a slight bit of stickiness. Drinkability is quite high, we didn't have a problem polishing off this growler. The only beer I can think that compares to this is Odell's St. Lupulin. I like how this beer skirts the fine line between APA and IPA, and you will too. Seldom seen outside the brewpub, I'd imagine this is Barley Brown's best seller, and though Turmoil, Head Shake, Disorder and Chaos grab the attention of the beer cognoscenti, this is one fine beer. All fans of Barley Brown's need to try this, and those who haven't been converted, a great gateway beer to one of America's best small brewpubs. Very highly recommended.

A friend sent me a growler of this and Sled Wreck from their pub-- fortunately the growlers maintain their carbonation pretty well.

Appearance: Relatively clear, orange, a hint of amber; shiny--almost a gold/copper. Got one finger of fluffy light beige head.

Smell: Strong on Northwest hops-- they dominate the nose. Bitter citrus, grassy, lots of resin.

Taste: The hops dominate here, too. Flavor is pitchy, full of resin like a strong, fresh hop... some grapefruit... woody, twiggy. Malt base is neutral. I like a good hoppy beer, though this isn't balanced as well as I'd like. More of a wet hop feel to it.

Mouthfeel: Dry, a bit puckerishly astringent. Otherwise it's a tad watery but firm, well enough for the style.

Drinkability: Despite my misgivings about the hop balance, I found it pretty drinkable-- it's fairly refreshing and the hops aren't too harsh.

Overall, a very decent beer and a well-done pale.

A friend from work brought me back this growler from a deer hunting trip to the Baker City area. That's what I call a friend!
Very cloudy amber pour with a modest white head. Lacings are subdued as well.
Aroma is very strong hop resins, some fruit.
Taste is leap forward bitter reinous hops, some funkiness from the yeast strain, some soapiness, a little sour, and astringent. The malts are there but very much in the background. A most unusual APA which I did enjoy a lot. Hop levels are pushing into IPA levels.
Mouthfeel was very good for the style and fairly low carbonation level.
Drinkability is quite good though I would guess the abv at about 5.7 to 6.5% Two pints sent me off to bed with a smile.

Tasted on-tap at Barley Brown's...

Appearance: light brown, hazy, thickish layer of off-white froth, good head retention, lace

Aroma: grapefruit bubble gum, grainy malt, pine, hint of hop cheese

Flavor: dry as a bone with a grassy/green hop flavor; hint of sulphur and grapefruit rind; somewhat tart; finishes dryish with a firm, lingering bitterness

Mouthfeel: medium body, gentle carbonation, crisp, astringent

Other comments: A solid, hoppy pale ale that deserves the awards it has received. The bitterness is a bit sharp at first but it smooths out as your palate gets used to it.

On tap at the Tap and Growler the other day.

The beer pours a solid amber color with orange hilights, good head retention and plenty of lacing. The nose is attractive as well, showcasing some sweet malt, dry citrus and a hint of pepper. On the palate, this beer almost defines a qauffable pale ale. You get some initial sweet malt up front, but then the beer completely dries out on the finish, with some decent bitterness. For some reason, this beer reminded very much of brit style ESB, though of course this being Barley Brown, there was a bit more hoppy bitterness on the finish than you typically find in any English ale. Mouthfeel is medium bodied at most, and I found this beer to be quite light on its feet, and just so very easy to drink. Alcohol is barely an afterthought in this nicely crafted beer.

Not sure I enjoyed this quite as much as Jeff (Jdense), but there's no doubt this is a tasty, easy to drink, sessionable pale ale (according to the T&G website, the abv. was 5.7%).
