Milkshake Waka - RaspberryMilkshake Waka - Raspberry
Notes: New England-Style India Pale Ale brewed with Raspberries, Lactose and Vanilla. We took our hops from New Zealand - and further enhanced the flavors, aromas and body with the addition of lactose (milk sugar), Madagascar vanilla beans and balanced with raspberries for fruity tartness.

Super disappointing. So thin, way too watery, where’s the “milkshake”? No head...vanilla comes off bitter here...the raspberries could be any tart fruit...this is a big “nope” for me.

This was a journey of a beer, with the only constant being the playful pinkish red body and pink tinted foam. So let's begin our journey with the beer cold, smells and tastes pleasant, sweet raspberry and vanilla shake with hops to finish. But then the beer warms up, and the raspberry becomes a little artificial, like a lollipop, but still fine. But this journey does not end well, warmed up only about 10 minutes it become syrupy and too sweet, also takes on a cough drop flavor in smell and taste. So how to rate? Somewhere in the middle of all of these stages, because when cold it was really good, but warm it was really bad, especially in taste. Feel is sticky no matter what, but the hop textures do help with the syrupy tendencies

Tasted in a snifter from draft at Consume on April 29, 2019. Brewed with Wakatu and Motueka hops from New Zealand. Raspberries, lactose and Madagascar vanilla beans were added. Sweet.

Released 4/18/19; drank 4/24/19 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dull pink appearance.

A violent pour yielded a nice white/pink head; frothy lace.

Raspberry, cream & mild orange citrus notes in the nose.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Raspberry, mild vanilla & spring water flavors up front; mild dry grass notes on the finish.

Thin & mild for the style; pleasant but inessential.

Pours a murky light ruby with half a finger of head that vanishes quickly. Raspberry and vanilla sherbet on the nose, very inviting. Mild hop bitterness joins on the palate, but this is clearly a dessert IPA, if such a thing exists. Not as excellent as some of Bare Hands' fruited milkshake IPAs, but a good attempt. My own opinion is that lactose is best used in IPAs with less haze and more clarity, allowing for a cleaner, more refreshing experience.

4/21/19 (Chicago): 16 oz can purchased at Beer on the Wall for $4.38 plus tax on 4/18/19, no canned date. Purplish raspberry colour pour, light white fizzy head leaves nominal lacing. Strong sweet vanilla and raspberry aroma. Very strong vanilla and raspberry taste, sweetness blunted by very bitter dry hops burn. Fizzy carbonation holds, light texture, vanilla after taste hard to shake. Overall mediocre offering.

16oz can, canned the other day. Cloudy pink colored body with a fizzy pinky head that fades to nothing quickly. Raspberry and tropical fruit nose. Big fresh raspberry flavors go well with the tropical fruit and grassy hop flavors; vanilla is mild. Medium and creamy body, modest bitterness, tart raspberry lingers with some grassy hops. This was refreshing on a warm spring day! Looking forward to drinking the rest of these!

Had this beer on tap at Orange and Brew. This beer certainly is what it says, Raspberry. Lots and lots of Raspberry. But that's what I would expect from Energy City. The look was almost pink in color and the smell was overwhelmingly raspberry. The taste was again very raspberry with a hint of vanilla. All in all if you really like raspberry you'll probably like this beer.
