Pint on draft at Otto in Back Cove.

Appearance: Very, very cloudy orange/straw with a short white head that recedes swiftly. Lots of sticky white lacing on way down.

Aroma: Super fruity and tropical. Apricot, peach. Lots of hops. Pine.

Taste: Big fruity punch up front. Apricot, peach, big mango note. Almost tastes like a smoothie. Hoppy bite on the finish. Dry. Great stuff.

Mouthfeel: Super drinkable at 7+. Appealing and pleasant. Aftertaste isn’t overpowering. You could drink this with food and still taste the food.

Overall: A real gem of a hoppy, tropical IPA. Great stuff.

From a 16oz can, undated but purchased at the brewery two days ago. Served in my brand new, really, really very cool, River Roost-branded stubby IPA glass.

Pours a moderately hazy, glowing pineapple-gold with a scant finger of super-soft, lathery foam. Retention is just OK, leaving a wispy cap and a solid curtain of thin lacing.

The nose on this beer is purely awesome, softly sweet, fruity and flowery, aromatic as all get-out.

Taste is in line with the nose, juicy-sweet up front with pineapple, crushed peaches and red, ripe, dripping jungle fruits. Leafy, green bitter herbs and crushed balsam needles develop into a dry, satisfyingly bitter hoppy finish.

Feel is soft, smooth and creamy, medium-hefty bodied with medium-light carbonation.

An excellent NEIPA from a new-to-me Portland brewery. Despite the only middling 7.2% abv, the relatively dense flowery/fruity character of the beer gives it a big feel - one or two of these at a sitting would probably be about my limit.

A: Pours a hazy yellow-orange color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a nice fluffy cap that leaves good lacing

S: Lots of citrus up front, with a focus on orange and grapefruit. Some malt in there as well, but the nose is all hops

T: Follows the nose, but leans more in a tropical direction. Orange and grapefruit still present, but it picks up some stone fruit (apricot and peach) as well as some pineapple. Moderately bitter. Finishes with lingering citrus and tropical fruit notes

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Definitely on the soft side

O: A great IPA from a new Portland brewery. Very easy to drink and not overpowering. Get some!

L - never heard of these guys, but scored a couple cans in a trade. Pours a classic New England haze: dark-ish orange with a brown hue. Some serious lacing on this guy; it ain't budging.

S - oats, orange, and lemon. Whiffs of sweet candied papaya and grainy melon. Pineapple too?

T - big, ripe grapefuit punch with a crisp, airy, herbal bitterness. Mild acidity and spicy, rindy, zesty twang. Bready pineapple and quite the dryness on the finish.

F - vast and expansive. Not exactly a heavy body per se, but feels like that expanding foam insulation. Takes up every inch and makes good use of it. Satisfying.

O - Goodfire is off to a good start! Excellent fleshed-out flavor with a boldness that such a young brewery absolutely needs.

16oz undated can.

Pours opaque, milky gold with a dense, creamy head of off-white. Plenty of spongy lacing and decent retention. Aromatics are tropical and ripe with mango, peach, and pear. Medium bodied with a creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Juicy hops on the palate with barely a trace of malt. Hard peach, mango, and pineapple. Finishes extremely fruity and quite dry.

Great beer.
