Poured out a dark brown color with reddish hues, a large frothy white head and a substantial amount of lacing. The nose gave me apples, bubblegum, a touch of coriander and passion fruit as well. There is a fusel alcohol as well. The taste was apples, a strong light malt flavor, alcohol, bubble gum a bit of mild caramel malt underneath, finishing lightly sweet with an apple flavor and a mild bitterness. Mouthfeel is foamy, with a long dry finish.

A dark nutbrown beer with very little head.

Smell is very malty with strong sweet caramel notes. The malt dominates the smell of the beer, this really is a malt driven beer. A spicy and fruity yeast flavor that goes well with the hoppy smell.

Taste is sweet malty with caramel notes. Bitterness is quite high and balances the sweetness. A nice, grassy hoppiness finishes the taste.
Mouthfeel is thick and chewy and a little over the top. The yeast leaves a light fruitiness which appears to be 'English' or at least mineralic and fruity in an English way.

1 liter filptop poured into my Delirum snifter, Niuw Ligt is a clear, pale bronzed amber with a small but creamy off-white head that leaves pretty nice lace for a English style bareley wine, which this is. Fat chick in a tutu on the label, love it! After a liter of this, that's the kind of mistake you might find yourself trying to make...

Smell is nutty, a hint of cocoa, reminds me of J.W. Lees, but not so intense.

Taste is more mellow, a nice balance, some nutty malt, some herbal hoppiness, not too sweet. Clean, with a pretty nice balance, if not overly exciting.

Mouthfeel is on the creamy side for an English BW, not to heavy, the ABV is well hidden.

Drinkability is pretty high for the style as well, a sipper for sure, but it went down dangerously easily for such a large bottle of big beer, certainly better the English style BWs it reminded me of. Nothing mind blowing, but not bad. I dug the fat chick on the label, in a whimsical manner.

Sampled at Arendsnest in Amsterdam, Holland.

Dark Ruby.

Pleasantly aromatic with notes of pine, spruce, berries and fruit punch. Very lively and fragrant.

Extremely mellow, layered and soft. Slightly spicy with notes of cinnamon and pepper. Fruit notes throughout; especially cherries, orange and tangerine. Fantastic!

L - ruby red clear beer with a couple of fingers of off white compact head; dissipates quickly leaving only barely lingering streaks of foam on the sides of the glass
S & T - alcohol is not well hidden at all; quite sweet in a honey/raisiny, or orange-y sense; balanced with some orange-pithy bitterness; very slightly peppery and dried grass-y; almost feels like an orange mix-drink; not very malty.
F - slightly thin feeling; not very prominent carbonation-wise; sticky sweet, covering the throat like a sugary soda; but has a pleasant warmth to it from the alcohol; dangerously drinkable

O - not a bad beer at all, especially a few sips in, but after the things I had heard about it from others, I left with the slightest disappointment. Still, it had a pleasant warming note, the orangeiness was nice, and it did leave me with an image/impression in my mind other than a clinical list of flavors, something not many beers do... even if that thought was slightly weird in that 'it tasted like it looks: like ruby'.
Yeah. Something something alcohol.

In the end, I would recommend it as being a 'good' beer, but will probably pass the beer now I've tasted it if there are other, novel things to try.
