If you've been to any other college-dominated sports bar anywhere else in the world, you already know what Stan's is like. Not that it's that bad, just fairly unoriginal. A little on the run-down, lived-in side with walls covered with pro and college sporting paraphernalia, hunting trophies and macro beer neon signage and posters.

It's got a good, rowdy college-kid feel to it and I imagine it could get packed and loud real easily. It's saving grace, however, is the beer selection with about 20-30 taps and maybe 60 in bottles. Everything tasted fresh and well-maintained if a little out-of-place in a joint like this. Beer is served in mason jars -- cute, but I have to suspect that I'm not getting a full 12-oz serving.

The back has a couple of pool tables and the ubiquitous annoying video games are littered throughout. A large number of televisions mounted everywhere are simultaneously showing any and every sport available at that time. Nice large patio deck seating out front but parking is very tight at this location.

Stan's Blue Note: Texas Taphouse & Grill is a great little college dive sports bar located near The Dubliner on Lower Greenville Avenue. It looks like just another "hole in the wall" place from the outside with a patio laden with umbrella clad picnic tables, but the inside has soul along with some decent taps. I lucked into a pint of Anchor Foghorn for $2.95 for happy hour on my last trip and that's a lot of bang for your buck! The place is a typical sports bar on the inside with black bar stools lining the bar, some pool tables, jukebox, shuffleboard, and lots of TV's everywhere. I found the bras hanging from the ceiling overhead an interesting distraction. The menu is far from amazing, but the chili cheeseburger & homeade fries will keep you from drowning. Stan's is definitely a good beer place to catch a football game or listen to some live music.
