Best by 12/11/17.

Pours a hazy copper with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Tiny particles of sediment are seen floating in the beer after the pour. Smell is of toasted malt, dark fruit, caramel, toffee, and alcohol aromas. Taste is much the same with dark fruit, caramel, toffee, earth, and alcohol flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that lives up to its imperial label by being quite boozy in both the smell and taste.

Serving type: bottle.

On-tap at Jopenkerk, Haarlem, Netherlands

A: The beer is clear but very dark red in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high beige head that died down and left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: Light aromas of dark fruits are present in the nose along with hints of loch oil and citrusy hops.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but has a little more flavors in the way of dark fruits.
M: It feels medium-bodied and very smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation andsomewarming from the alcohol.
O: The subtle amounts of citrusy hops make this quadrupel rather interesting. Considering its strength, the alcohol is well hidden from the taste.

25 oz bottle served in a Porter Bar goblet.

Clear red-brown body topped by a decent head.
Near equal bitter-sweet balance.
Toffee, hops, faint spices and dark bread in the flavor.
Partially hidden, high ABV: well-hidden in both the nose ad the mouth, with some warming.

Overall: tasty cross between an imperial quad and an Amer. Strong Ale.

An okay brownish dark color. The beer has a pleasent but simple smell to it. The taste fits the smell of the beer okay but nothing special. The mouthfeel is a little watery for a quad. Overall this is a decent beer and a drinkable quad but it doesn't bring anything special really.

Dark brown pour with little head. Smells of dark fruit, grapes, prunes, caramel. Tastes like dried fruit - figs and especially raisins - caramel, prunes, dark grapes. It has a slight metallic feeling and a harsh bitterness in the background that I can only describe as super-bitter grapefruit without the citrus part. Soft mouthfeel with a harsh metallic and bitter aftertaste, which I did not detect the first time I had this beer.

Doops picked me up a bottle of this stuff. Thanks man!

This brew was supposed to be a one time deal, but it proved too popular to retire, so they brewed another batch and now plan on brewing it on a rotating basis. Sounds good to me.

From a bottle into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Pours a big, fluffy, three finger, medium looking, light tan head with very good retention. Opaque deep auburn brown with medium carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a good foam cap and leaves some clingy lacing down the sides. A wisp remains until the end and leaves some decent lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Good nose. Caramel malts, bready notes with some spicy yeast in there as well. Dark fruits, raisins and dates mostly, and a noticeable booze presence. Medium strength. Nice, but could be bolder.

TASTE: Follows the nose well, but with that extra kick. Sweet caramel malt, bready and dark fruits up front. Sweet and fruity through the middle, mostly raisins and dates again, with a spicy, Belgian yeast finish. Big aftertaste of sweet caramel, spicy yeast and alcohol lingers nicely. A touch of hop bitterness at the finish, which balances the show nicely. Well rounded and enjoyable, and definitely more forthcoming than the nose.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation for the style. Not quite as creamy as hoped, but still goes down fine and finishes relatively crisp and dry. A bit of heat after the swallow. Decent, but average for the style.

OVERALL: Good stuff for sure, and a fine example of the quadruple style. Jopen has been ramping up the creativity lately, branching out from their standard line-up, and I’m enjoying their willingness to experiment. This is one of their better, more interesting and flavorful brews, so if you happen to see it somewhere, give it a go. Recommended.

From the growler via Eightball Brewing which also gave me a chance to say good luck
to the fun tender of the bar---Peanut!
This fine ale pours a deep dark brown with mahogany highlights and a modest head of
light off white foam that settles to a thick ring and light lacing in the snifter. Nose of dark
brown sugars, subtle cherries and astringent alcohol, raisins, and biscuit. Flavors follow the
nose with cherry and raisin notes drowning in brown sugar and very heavy booze with a touch
of dark bread crust and subtle bitterness of herbal hops. Nice mouth feel, low carbonation, slick,
sweet, and very warm. Overall a good experience, but not my favorite quad by any stretch of the
means. Still a good solid brew to try.

Kind of standard as far as quads go but pretty solid all around. Huge malty flavors of raisin, caramel and toast smother any of the advertised American hops that may be in there. Very slick and full mouthfeel, smooth carbonation with a bit of booze heat.
