This isn't my regular place to pick up beer, but I feel they do a decent job.

They have a pretty good selection of locals, crafts, and imports. Their prices seem to fall within the bounds of their competitors' pricing. They offer singles and mix packs.

One area I kind of wavered on was service. In my experience it seems to be all or nothing. One of the last times I went I brought my purchase (a bomber of a Rogue brew from the shelf) to the counter, the cashier mentioned that he had it in the cooler too. As he brought me back to find it, he also gave me suggestions of others to try if I enjoyed that one.

However, I've also gone in and spent a good 10 minutes or more in the beer section without a single person asking if I needed any help.

I'd recommend this shop if you're in the area. Just don't be too shy to ask for help if you need it.

I enjoy the vibe and the selection at D. Schuler's, but in my opinion it is the customer service that stands out. The staff take time to ask you questions and they look out for you when they know what you like.

Awesome bottle shop! Great selection that is very diverse. Staff were super welcoming and helpful, they seemed to know their stuff. Huge liquor wall and a big wine selection. Didn't check out the humidor since I don't smoke. Prices seemed standard/reasonable. Of the many shops around Grand Rapids D. Schuler's is one of the better ones without a doubt.

D. Schulers has a very good selection of craft beers from all over the place. The beer they cary there is fantastic. They are kind of highly priced compared to some of the other options in the area with the same products. The service there isn't the friendliest place I've ever been and they don't really seem to be too helpful. The only reason that I'd go back here is if I was looking for something that the other places locally didn't have because there are much better options nearby.

I think this place is amazing! The staff was on point with my questions, knew what they were talking about. Selection, out of this world. With beer ratings located on shelf space for most beers, you get the idea that someone working there loves beer as well. I asked about the upcoming KBS release and was surprised to be asked to be put on a limited, one bottle per costumer list. And was promised that beer for up to a week after the March 25th release! Awesome place, great people working, setup was ideal. Price was a little high on the 'hype' beers, usually is around here though. Plus, you can choose a single from any six or twelve pack, on top of a huge single/bomber selection already setup for choosing from.

been going to schullers for years, mainly because they have a good selection. they use to be pretty pricey, then when they moved to their new location it seemed like they adjusted cost to a more reasonable spot. Now within the last few months it seems like everytime they get something new they jack the price on it compared to other places. also they have had list for certain beers and held them in the back. they do however have a very nice selection of beer. usually when something new comes out they get it right away which I like. they also have alot of wine/liqour and cigars if your into that type of stuff.

edit! I have stopped shopping at schullers for probably the last 9 months. the last time I was in there I asked an older lady working there if they still had any founders backwoods bastard left(this was about a month after it had been released, and they where charging about 14 bucks a 4 pk for it.) she goes in the back and brings out 1 bottle, MARKED AT 6$!!! she asked me if I wanted it I said no way, thats about twice what it should cost. so I then bought a 4pk of founders curmudgeons, and it was priced at around 13$, still higher then anywhere else. after that I vowed never to return there again, and so far I have kept good on my promise!

I've visited Schuler's a few times and found that it decent, but nothing specials... well, NO MORE!

I was on a run today and it was close to 100 degrees. On my way back home, I felt a little woozy, so i didn't think twice about grabbing the hose in front of D. Schuler's to down some water so I wouldn't pass out. After I turned the hose off, I was ripped a new one by the store's owner for using his hose. He told me never to use it again. I tried to explain in a respectful way that I really needed a drink and he continued to berate me. I knew that nothing that I could say would calm this jerk down, so I left to finish my run.

I stopped in the new location (across the street from the old spot) to kill some time before a job interview and left with a 6er and a couple bombers.

The new building is still in a strip mall, but its a nicer strip mall. There is more space than in the previous location. It was very dark inside, but this could have been because I walked in as they opened. The staff was more than happy to help but I didn't have anything to ask.

They have a large selection of cold singles and lots of 22oz bottles. They have a great selection of Michigan and some other midwest beers. There were several Cali breweries around but there wasn't a whole lot else. I didn't find anything special or hard to find. Pricing was what I expected and seemed fair to me.

They also have a walk-in humidor, thought I don't smoke so I can't speak to selection or pricing of cigars.

There is also an extensive wine and liquor selection, but I'm not really into that either.

Atmosphere: I don't spend too much time here. The good stuff is in such a small place if there are a few people in there you can get in each other's way pretty often.

Quality: Plenty of cooler space, and also a fair amount of shelves as well. Beers sorted by state. Mix and match sixers which is starting to become the norm. Most of the beer is in the back of the store and out of the sunlight. There are some bottles which have been there a while.

Service: The service here is basically nonexistent. I usually come to this store in the middle of the day, and still don't get help, even when I am the only one in the store. It seems there is only one employee working at a time who doesn't come from behind the counter.

Selection: Nothing spectacular. They always have a decent amount of locals and some other interesting stuff, but nothing that I would go out of my way for. Smaller store, smaller selection. Really haven't seen anything new here for a while as well.

Value: When I come here I usually expect to see a little higher prices. Nothing outrageous, just higher than usual.

I don't usually end up on this side of town much, but I stopped in with some friends on our way out to a nature hike.

Service was fairly minimal. I wandered around for a good 15 minutes and wasn't offered any help. To be fair, the guy at the counter had a fairly steady line, and I'm not sure if anyone else was around. Store was pretty organized, and beer was labeled by State.

Selection was decent, I found a few offerings I hadn't seen in my usual haunts. Picked up a 6-pack of Victory Storm King priced at 14 something. At the counter it rang up at 11 dollars and some cents. Nice. Either it was on sale or somebody mis-marked the pack. No complaints on getting a better price though.

What surprised me was the constant line of people buying crap beer, when they had so many better offerings. (It was an early afternoon too.) I won't go out of my way to stop here, but if i'm in the neighborhood a stop will most likely prove worthwhile. Nice place.

This is my spot. Every weekend I come here for a few beers. Great selection of craft brew and quality import. It's in a strip mall hidden away on the north side of 44th st by Ramble Wood apartments between Byron Center and Ivanrest.
Yeah the staff can be confined to the counter too much but I have had good visits with the owner, who is very helpful (once assisted me in a custom six pack). The craft beer selection has improved every year and includes a greater selection of local beer with an expected selection of some higher named craft breweries (Stone, DFH, Rouge, Victory). Last year they switched a wall of cooler doors to a custom six pack area (great choice), and a well defined good selection of singles is stored there.

As compared to the other stores I have visited in the Grand Rapids area this one has the lowest priced singles around.

I wish I worked here on the weekends!

Good selection of beer and wine. Staff is eager to help. Nice dark wood interior reminds you of an old wine cellar. Everything well kept out of direct sunlight. Good selection of micros and imports. Locals include Dark Horse, Arbor, Founders, Bells, New Holland, some other abstracts. Nice find here, a bottle of Dog Fish Head World Wide Stout from 2004(in 2007). Prices are on par with everything else in the area. I made my rounds to all the stores in GR this past Christmas since the selection in North Carolina is not as refined as in Michigan, though they are finally starting to catch up.

I ran across Schuler's Wine Cellar whilst in search of coffee after a fine day spent at Founders. Their primary focus seems to be wine, however, they seem to carry a fairly extensive selection of micro brews.

Quality: The beer seemed to be fresh and was kept away from natural light. No complaints with anything I purchased.

Service: The initial help we received was just that, help. The man who approached us was helpful, and he seemed generally interested in recommending beers that we would appreciate. At the counter, the service was less than exceptional, in fact, it was atrocious. The fellow who deigned to speak to us did almost everything possible to insinuate that our taste in beer was poor and to make us feel unwelcome in the store. He personified everything I dislike about insular cultures in general and beer snobs in particular...and we weren't even buying macro...merely a few locals that he didn't think were particularly good.

The score that I've given in service reflects an average of exceptional (the initial help) and terrible (the man at the counter) but said counter service was poor enough that I doubt I will ever shop at this store again.

Selection: The selection at the store seemed to be quite good for the area...a good number of harder to find locals, as well as fairly unusual offerings such as Deus and a variety of other Belgian style beers.

Value: Slightly below average. Most beers seemed to be a quarter or two more expensive than usual and the wines seemed to be marked up a couple of dollars over what I'm used to. Reflective of the neighbourhood though.

Overall: I like the selection of the store, but I doubt I will go back due to the service isssues outlined above.

D. Schuler's had a pretty good selection. Warm singles were arranged on shelves and the coolers were loaded up with full sixers and quads. I couldn't find everything I wanted in singles which was a slight downer, but overall they had much to offer. My bro pointed out some Edition 2004 and Blanche de Chambly which I hadn't seen around yet. Looked like they had some imports going on. Lots of wine, go figure. Not bad. Not the promise land. The service was fine. The store had the best ambiance of any establishment on the grand tour which is worth a quality point. Once again I wish they had everything in singles. That is what makes a place go from good to great in my humble opinion.
