pours black with a red tint when held to the light, a thin brown head, and some lacing.
smell is of sour malt, cocoa, a touch of coffee, a little vanilla, and some licorice.
taste is thin, cocoa, and malt, ends a little watery, and sour.
overall just an average imperial stout.

Pours with no head, no matter how much you try. The smell is quite nice, dark chocolate, cocoa, dark fruit, some alcohol. The taste follows the same trend, veering towards a traditional RIS, if not for the super present alcohol in the taste. Would make for a decent drink, if the alcohol weren't that present, and given the fact that it has a 8.5% ABV concentration, I think this qualifies as a big let down.

1 pt bottle
no date
A- Blackish with a slight red tint around the edges, looks kind of watery with little to no head at all, no lacing.
S- Bottle: chocolate, dark malts no alcohol. Glass: Dark fruits, little chocolate, kind of dark fruit sweet, alcohol presence from glass.
T- Kind of sweet boozy, dark fruit, some chocolates. Finish with a slight booziness.
M- Medium body that is sort of watery after it hits the tongue. It has a smoothness but nothing near silky.
O- Pours more like a soda pop, not to thrilled by the lack of carbonation. It smells better from the bottle than the glass. The taste is kinda of a boozy mess with nothing to distinguish the flavors. The lack of bubbles really show in the way it feels with sorta smooth but nothing to please the tongue. Sort of a let down for a RIS, I wont be getting this one again....ever.

While a dark brown in color, it's got a little bit of a brown-orange tint in its edges, and it doesn't look particularly heavy. I'm giving it a bit more credit than the rigid style specification, since it's intended to be something other than a straight RIS. The head makes it look somewhat soda-like, as it rises, fizzes and dies fairly quickly. An island does remain that gives up a bit of spotting around the glass.
There's some roast with a touch of char, dark fruits with a bit of a sugary quality to them, a hint of cocoa powder, and a very Belgian-like note of bubble gum.
I think I'm starting to get what these guys do; to this point, I've had two, and both have had a Belgian yeast twist to them. So, while the flavor still is a bit too light with too much emphasis on fruits and too little on roast, it ends up being a pretty good beer overall. Malts bring roast, and there's a bit of caramel and bittersweet cocoa, dark fruits and a hint of black licorice.
The feel would score very low for an RIS, but again, I have a feeling there's something else going on here. As such, with the medium body and semi-dryness, it's not bad. Carbonation is moderate, giving even parts crispness and smoothness. The medium body does just barely make that, though.

Doesn't appear to have a date on it anywhere, but it did just hit shelves here.
A: Faintest hiss as the cork pops. Pours dead still despite an aggressive pour. Dark brown, not quite black body. Obviously no head retention or lacing of any kind.
S: Hmph. Lots of dark fruits. Raisins, plums and figs. Hints of tobacco and leather. Maybe a little smoke but no signs of roasted malt.
T: Again, dark fruits up front, similar to the aroma. Get some roasted malt now, mostly some sweet chocolate. Kind of tastes like watered down hershey's syrup with a little bit of fruit in it if I'm honest. Fruit is a touch tart in the finish.
M: Completely flat, but somehow quite watery despite decent ABV.
O: Hard to judge this beer. There is obviously some sort of brewing flaw or oxidation or something along those lines given that the beer was completely flat. I wanted to rate it regardless because after looking at a bunch of reviews it seem this is common and not a fluke. Regardless of carbonation, it does not taste like any RIS I've had before. Not very good; I poured it out. Shame because this wasn't a cheap bottle.

Beer poured from bottle into Snifter shaped glass
A - Beer poured with a dark body, nearly black, with some reddish looks when holding the glass up under a light; beer poured with no head at all, and appeared very thin; not much lacing formed
S - Scents of molasses and deep roasted malts come up; some sour or acidic notes flush the nose and create an unusually scent for an RIS; there is some chocolate and coffee scents, but are overpowered by the sourness and the alcohol
T - Beer presents itself with a touch of sweetness at the beginning of the drink and finishes with an unattractive sour taste, very unusual for an RIS; flavor is mostly sour molasses with hints of caramel, licorice and smoke; sweet flavors are dark fruit based
M - Less than average mouthfeel for an RIS, very thin and no head at all; I expect more of a complex texture to this beer; very thin and moderately effervescent; watery; slight bitter aftertaste
D - I love this style and this was anything but an RIS; most of these beers are over-hopped and very frothy, silky in feel and heavy on flavor; this beer was the exact opposite; a bit of a let down but definitively something that an RIS lover should try for the experience

Jason brought this bottle to tasting. Pours dark brown with zero head or lacing. He says the bottle is fresh, so this clearly didn't keep somehow. Smells of molasses and licorice with some roasted malt. No carbonation so the mouthfeel is pretty bad. I got tired and didn't finish my glass, though it wasn't awful.

Black with no head, however lace rings. Sourish taste, not very drinkable. Less than average mouthfeel for an RIS, this is not a bad porter though the significant is there. Yet not tasting infected, its more acidic from the roasted barley. More a story of must be drunk fresh.Jason's bottle.
