Definitive AleDefinitive Ale
Notes: Definitive Ale is our mainstay IPA that is built upon a soft pillowy malt structure and is dry hopped twice with some of our favorite hop varieties from the Pacific Northwest and Australia. Drinking this ale with bring forth notions of ripe cantaloupe, freshly squeezed limeade and tons of tropical fruits that we have never tried before.

16oz can dated 5/11/18.

Pours murky gold with a cream-of wheat head of off-white. Pineapple and grapefruit pith in the nose with shades of mango and starchy proteins. On the fuller side of medium bodied with a creamy and soft but somewhat chalky mouthfeel. Tropical citrus starts the palate with plenty of grapefruit pith, pineapple, and pear. Zero malt with a minimal bitterness. Finishes fairly dry aside from the juicy, fruity character.

Nice NEIPA!

Canned 9/28/18
Pours a large foamy fizzy head that fades semi slowly, nice retention, a bit of lacing, super murky hazy golden tangerine orange color

Nose explodes from the pour, tons of citrus, orange juice, orange creamscicle, tangerine, mango, papaya, generic tropical, then a dank onion pine note like mosaic, creamy base malt wheat, tropical fruit bubblegum

Taste starts with loads more citrus, orange juice, tangerine, orange cream, mango sorbet, then spicy hops and slight pine and dank, generic tropical, big papaya as it warms, mild creamy wheat malt, then floury paper pulp thing, soft but not juicy, drier but slight sticky finish, bit of bitterness

Mouth is med to lighter bod but soft creamy, nice creamy carb

Overall not too bad, doesn't compare to many other local Portland area beers but not bad

Pours like a glass of pineapple oj, with a 2 finger sticky off white head that leaves gorgeous rings of lace behind. 4.5

Smell is guava, papaya, a little herbal, pineapple, and some grapefruit rind.4.5

Taste follows tropical front to back, with some hints of weed and grapefruit in the lingering balanced finish. 4.75

Mouthfeel is a big medium, soft and slightly sticky, juicy, and goes down extremely easy at 6.7% ABV. 4.5

Overall this is outstanding, would love to get my hands on more. 4.5

16oz tallboy, media sample from the brewery.

Hazed out pale orange-ish hue, decent amount of head on top. Suggestions of fresh cut hay, melon rind, citrus pith, and mealy apples. Smooth with a moderately sized body, good amount of carbonation lifts the softness of this brew up. Biscuity malt, modest hop bitterness but with a full compliment of flavor. A pretty good brew to be had here, rides around the middle of the pack when it comes to hazy IPAs.

Quite interesting, a departure from the usual current IPA styles. More mellow and toned down.

Floral aroma, hoppy- not overdone. I can’t quite pinpoint the citrus, almost weird, combo of stone fruit and citrus. Semi-cloying MF.

Very enjoyable for the different approach. Not my kind of IPA, which needs strong defined fruit.

From a 16oz can, dated 05/11/18. Served in an imperial pint pub glass.

Pours a murky, dull pineapple-gold with two-plus fingers of rough and thick-bubbled, off-white head. Retention is good and leaves a heavy, scuzzy honeycomb of lacings down the sides of the glass.

Nose is thick with richly maltiness, grass and sharp, pungent fruit notes.

Taste is, again, thickly malty, heavily earthy and grassy, with sticky pineapple and grapefruit rind. The bitterness dial is cranked two to three notches past the midpoint. Finishes with an unfortunate witch-hazel/petroleum aftertaste which I noted both here, out of the can, and on draught at the taproom.

Feel is smooth and slick, medium-hefty bodied attenuated by fairly heavy but welcome carbonation.

Overall, a pretty-much OK IPA but a little disappointing, mostly due to the mild but decidedly unpleasant aftertaste. This could clean up into a really decent beer with a little fine-tuning so, meantime, I wish them the best and I'll try it again next time I'm in the neighborhood.
