Notes: Millionaire's Shortbread Imperial Stout with Chocolate, Caramel & Shortbread

Dolla dolla billz, y'all. Brand new millionaire's shortbread inspired imperial stout, brewed with a decadent chocolate forward foundation and conditioned on a fat sack of Ugandan cocoa nibs, caramel and shortbread cookies. BIG impressions of chocolate covered sea salt caramels with a little shortbread.

Had Moneybags at Two Tides taproom, Savannah, on draft into 10-oz. footless wine glass.

Pours absolutely black with 1/2-finger dark tan head, which quickly dissipates to nothing, and leaves only a few specks of lace. Aromas of mild chocolate and serious roast malts off pour, then biscuit (cookie) and deep caramel, and some dark fruits and grassy hops as warms. Begins sweet caramel and chocolate, then nice hop bite, over a very thick and creamy malt body, with notably sweet biscuit (cookie) in evidence, before some roast malts finally surface for the hoppy, bitter, somewhat fruity, rather more chocolate and long, lingering caramel but still crisp finish.

The aromas don't shout dessert stout, but more Russian Imperial, which is my judgment despite the (tasty) almost dessert yet still crisp, hoppy finish.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque in the glass with a somewhat fizzy, two finger dark chocolate head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, chocolate, caramel and cake; nice pastry stout profile. Flavor is dark toasted malt, milk and dark chocolate, dry caramel, cake frosting; frosted brownie finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A quite nice pastry stout; a little sweet, but restrained enough to be sippable for an evening. The chocolate and caramel are in harmonious balance. There is a definite cakey, dessert character here that must be from the shortbread and it does set this apart from the pastry pack. Somewhat lighter in body than I expected from the deep, dark pour, but satisfactory for the style. I'm not a fan of big cans of pastry stouts, but this 8 oz seems a little too small. Probably appropriate for a dessert stout. I like this one.
