Second Orbit is a Hazy Triple IPA brewed for our Second Trip around the sun. Brewed with heavy amounts of Oats. Orbitally hopped with Mosaic, Galaxy, Citra, and our new favorite experimental hop HBC 692. Expect ripe tropicals, rich citrus and balanced pine. Hope you’ve enjoyed our second trip as much as we did.

Pale yellow in color with an opaque, unfiltered appearance. Poured with a short, creamy white foam that quickly dissipated. Dark melon, papaya and mellow tropical fruit aromas with notes of malt and cereal oats. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Light silly smooth feel and expanding, mellow boozy warmth from beginning to end. Dark tropical fruit flavors, mango, papaya and melon followed by medium light hop bitterness and mellow booziness to the end. Medium light malty backbone. Finished with a bit of boozy heat, subtle bitterness and fruity notes. Very well balanced for the high abv, which is very well hidden, and considering the low bitterness. Very tasty.

It seems like every time that I turn around, New Trail is releasing yet CANother CANned beer for The CANQuest (tm)! I do not CANsider this a bad thing and I applaud their CANtinued efforts. This was a recent score at/from the Friendly Greek Bottle Shop (FGBS).

From the CAN: "Second Orbit Hazy Triple IPA"; "Keep Cold[,] Drink Fresh"; "Brewed in Williamsport Pennsylvania".

I Crack!ed open the vent & since it was identified as being "hazy", I went with a heavy-handed aggro Glug into the awaiting glass. This resulted in the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with very good retention. Color was a turbid, cloudy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose was redolent with pine, underlain with grapefruit & pineapple as well as a more tropical mango-papaya mix. Mmm. Mouthfeel was big, thick, full & creamy. Perfect! The taste was a wild admixture of old & new hops, ranging from the PNW pine & grapefruit to the more recent Southern Hemisphere to the plain experimental. I was getting bursts of all sorts of flavors throughout. Pine & mango, then orange & grapefruit, followed by papaya & grassiness! 8=O Finish was a semi-dry mélange of flavors that defies quantification. Phew! This will get you into Orbit! YMMV.

This beer is by far one of the best beers that I have ever tasted!
For being a Triple IPA, it is smooth and full of hops. It is not boozy, strong or bitter.
One can is just enough for me.

Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Opaque juicy pour. Medium golden color with thick foamy white head. Great lacing.

S: Sweet fruits and booze. Citrus and mango.

T.F: Semi-sweet... grains and tropical fruit. Tangerine citrus, pine, mango, and pineapple. Dank... melon and a bit of pepper. Modest bitterness. Warming... medium to thick bodied and sticky on the tongue. ABV is hidden but the booze sneaks through a bit as it warms.

O: A big DIPA. Solid flavor... a little boozy and 1 is more than enough, but a definite treat. Worth snagging if you can find it.

Opaque yellowish orange color with stick white head on top. The smell of the beer has a very nice citrusy cream like aroma. The taste is a little piney, some orange and subtle grapefruit bitterness. The feel is smooth, hardly feels like 10%. Overall this is another home run for New Trail.

From an undated 16oz can but released just a few weeks ago. What a lovely triple IPA! No heat from the higher ABV at all. Just lots of juicy tropical notes on the nose and palate. A little sweetness, too, so I would not be surprised if a little lactose is in the brew. One of New Trail’s best, for sure.
