If you want volume this is not the store for you. If you are from out of town and want local and independent brews only this is the place for you. Staff was helpful and made some outstanding picks for me based on my tastes, gave me the DL on great places to eat and where to have fun. Plus they are beautiful people.

While visiting Richmond, we stopped in at 11am to see what was good and local.

Very clean and organized. Lots of VA beers, of course the standard big boy craft breweries, and just a handful of distant wants. They do sell singles, but that selection was rather low. A good bit of beer was out on the floor (I understand the lack of cooler space these days), yet I did walk out with 4-5 four packs, so the selection wasn't horrible.

I stopped by Corks and Kegs on a Saturday beer visit to Richmond in June 2016. I only had enough time to visit one store, and since this one was near Mekong and The Answer, and because I saw it was highly rated here on BA, I chose to make this my one beer store stop. I was hoping to find some good local/regional beers to take back to OH with me. Ultimately, after browsing the selection, I left without buying anything. They featured a selection of local/regional cans, but there wasn't anything super fresh or exciting. Overall, the selection was average. One of the employees did a nice job summarizing the local scene for me, but even he agreed there wasn't anything compelling on the shelves for me to take home.

Admittedly, Saturday afternoon isn't always the best time to visit a beer shop, since many of the highly sought after releases typically arrive during the weekdays and don't last til the weekend. But I would have expected a store rated this highly would have had something worthwhile for me to take home. Overall, it's a nice store--clean and well organized--but I wouldn't go far out of my way to visit again; the selection just didn't merit a follow up visit for me.

My review of this place is as follows:

I stopped down here on my way to LCCB's 2nd Anniversary bottle release, and while I was picking up stuff like a sixer Anderson Valley Blood Orange Gose and the last Farm to Face bottle they had, the owner surprised me with a bottle of Velvet Merkin.

Enough said.

Stopped by while spending a night in Richmond. Pretty good amount of craft offerings ranging from German and Belgian imports to solid locals. Filled a my own growler of On the Wings of Armageddon (+) and picked up 6'ers of Lickinghole Creek and Anderson Valley Gose. Prices were average and the young lady behind the counter was courteous and helpful. They also offer a build your own 6 but didn't have that many offerings from the selection to build. A good stop if you are in Richmond.

This place can be a gold mine at times. You can find things you cannot find anywhere else. Owner is very knowledgeable. His staff can be hit or miss. Selection is tough to beat. Prices are very reasonable and often beat Total Wine. They could use a larger footprint of a store possibly but that might cause them to charge more. Excellent retail store.

I'm from the Charlotte, NC area - this bottle shop carries a wide variety of brews I can't pick up at home and the prices are very reasonable. The staff is knowledgeable, even hooked me up with their last bottle of a barrel aged one-off from a local brewery. They even knew my boy, Chris from Peabody's in Boone, NC. Great bottle shop with good people, check em out.

A great shop in Richmond, and one of the best places to hit in the area for craft beer purchasing.

They have a somewhat large fridge with a lot of moderately common craft choices (and some macros, with the occasional uncommon choice as well). Then they have a vertical rack arranged by style with lots of six and four-packs of great stuff, but where the selection really shines is in the bomber racks and singles selections. They don't have a lot as far as terribly uncommon brews go, but they definitely have enough to please the average beer connoisseur, I'd wager, and I always leave pleased with my selections.

Some might complain about the bombers being stored vertically on wine racks, but it's never negatively impacted anything I've bought from there so it doesn't particularly bother me. There are probably a good 200-or-so beers to choose from on an average day, and the management is happy to recommend or to tell you of new stuff they have coming in. If you really want something special that they're missing, I've even had one of the management offer to order it in, but it was going to be too costly an affair overall, sadly.

What's more, they have literally hundreds of kegs, available in many different sizes, which is both great for throwing larger parties and more intimate get-togethers.

Usually they're having some sort of wine or beer tasting going on, as well as local music (there's a cello player in particular that I love hearing when browsing for beer), which is nice atmospherically.

A highly recommended establishment overall, its only real drawback being how much money you can mysteriously lose upon visiting...

Just off Three Chopt and Horsepen.

More than half the store is devoted to beer. Always a good sign for me. Decent sized cooler section across the back with varied selection, representative of the area. Large mix-a-six shelves near the checkout.

6 or 8 rows of corked and caged beers. Biggest selection I have seen. Stored in wine cage shelving. Also quite a few bombers and capped 750's. Picked up CC Guava and Bruery 4 Calling Birds.

Service is attentive without being overly so. Aware of local scene and what is coming.

Nice dog in the house, too.

I've been going to Corks and Kegs for a while now and it is a great little place to shop. I live out in the West End and i prefer C&Ks level of customer service over Once Upon a Vine's lack thereof so i'll drive out of my way to get the "mom and pop shop" feel versus what you get at Once Upon a Vine (which to me feels almost like a grocery store or WalMart). I have only 1 minor gripe:

C&K stores beer horizontal, which i am not a fan of. Call me picky, but corked beer should be upright. Dont get me wrong, those guys there KNOW their beer, and they have a wealth of knowledge about them, but given their confined space, i understand why they do it, i just dont agree with it.

Also, a few of the beers they have there are a little overpriced. The Trappist ales they have you can get at World Market for a couple bucks less, i do however put my faith in C&K that they're getting some fresher beverages vice World Market, which is essentially a larger version of a yard sale.

As a beer specialty shop, i can sympathize with their need to branch out (wine and cigars) and charge a little a bit more, and so i still give C&K 2 big thumbs up and my denotation as the premier shop in Richmond. The quality of beer and service is outstanding, and far surpasses Once Upon a Vine...i guess i just wish they would expand some :)

Been in here a few times, not my regular corner shop though. Right near the University at Patterson and Three Chopt.

Pretty good lineup with all the domestic brands available in Virginia, and stuff seems reasonably fresh. Did not see any real limited stuff outside of Devil Dancer, but most supplies in the area are exhausted. Not sure about imports, haven't ventured far enough into that world to know whether the selection is on par. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Regular tastings and a large cold beer cabinet.

This is a stone's throw from where I am currently living, which is a dangerous feature, haha. The people there are incredible. They are very active online and want to cater to the people.

The one thing that would put Once Upon a Vine over C&K would be the selection of singles. If people want to try new things, but do not want to buy a whole lot, then the selection is limited. Overall the layout is great here, but the space is limiting the amount they can, or want, to carry.

I think if they had more variety I would shop exclusively through them.

It's about a ten to fifteen minute drive from my apartment. I walked in and couldn't help smiling at the huge number of 22 oz bombers laying in front of me. An employee immediately greeted me and began speaking with me about BA and recent tastings he had. I came to find out he was the General Manager, and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were about what I would expect to find, and very reasonable. Decent selection of six packs as well, but I personally was all about the 22oz. Huge selection of wine and cigars also.

For me this place is a little out of the way, so I was looking forward to the chance to get there on a Sunday and spend a little time looking around.

If you DO live in Richmond or work in town, it's likely that this place could be a great place to visit. For me, it'll be a great place to hit 22 oz. beers.

Speaking of, I do not believe that I have ever seen such a respectful and deep display of 22 oz. beers in any one place. I was totally impressed by the selection of 22's.

I was hoping for a bit more of a selection in the single bottles, but they did have a sign noting "Pardon their mess", which leads me to the assumption that they typically have a much better selection than what I found. I did, however, find a few singles that I have never seen before - so that's a huge plus.

Their selection of 4 and 6 packs was on par with most any other store I have been to in terms of varied selection, as long as you aren't going there to see thousands of run of the mill beers. If you want something special or hard to find, this may be the place.

The layout was nice, seeing as how they have beer confined to 1/3rd of the store, right to the right as you walk in.

The service seemed friendly, but a little distracted. Can't really fault them for this as they were searching for good music to play while I was there, which I did appreciate greatly.

This place won't be my first stop (geographical limitations) but I look forward to Sunday drives or afternoon jaunts to see what special things they may have available.

clean mid-sized store with a few horizontal wine-style racks filled with various 750s, a section of coolers with a nice range of micros, and some others in room temp storage, small selection of singles, good variety of beers spanning most styles and locales to include most of our VA locals, surprised to see KBS in the store as it's been scooped up most everywhere else, not a particularly wowing selection but everyone will likely find something new and enjoyable, I left with a couple Legend singles and some Troegs Java Head

the gent working the store that day was certainly nice, probably could have pointed out some alternatives to the customer who came in looking for something that wasn't in stock, but was still helpful in her search, wasn't really in need of assistance myself
