Fluffy light khaki head over a pretty, Fall-like, deep red/light brown body. Head retention is decent, as is lacing. Good looking beer. Smells nice; malt-forward with notes of brown sugar and maple syrup. There's also an Earthen, almost dead-leaves vibe going on too. It's very... eh, Autumnal? Sure. I don't mind sounding like an asshole sometimes. Tastes great for an NA (sorry to use the qualifier, but...). There's a nuttiness up front before a watered-down maple syrup finish. Is maple water a thing? Cuz that's what this tastes like. Very sweet, but not unpleasantly so. Light and crisp on the tongue, but it does have a bit more heft than most NA brews. I kinda grade on a curve for the mouthfeel on these things. And this one measures up. A pretty fantastic non-alcoholic beer, this.

 

 

This is a really nice NA beer, one of my favorites from Athletic so far. I'm a big fan of brown ales and to get an NA brown ale that tastes great is so nice. Smells exactly how I would expect a brown ale would smell like. Onto taste, it tastes close to a newcastle brown. Just a really really nice NA beer.

Athletic just keeps outdoing themselves. Big fan of Athletic and this beer.

L- Dark ish brown that has hints of red in the light. Finger of head that seems to quickly dissolve.
S - Ever so slight vegetal, bready, and some slight chocolate and caramel
T - I seem to taste more of the caramel and bready flavors. Nothing stands out as king but it is very crisp and refreshing. The slight kick at the back of the throat is nice.
F - Lighter feel, more mild carbonation, it just keeps me coming back
O - This is a nice, light brown. The first time I had one I was a little thrown off by the smell because it reminded me of the Bravus beer heads that I can’t stand. However, I came to realize there was more there and I seemed to enjoy each one more and more. Not quite as thick as the standard brown I am used to but I like it that way.

Pours a dark brown with a deep burgundy shining through when held against a light. Head is two and a half fingers of khaki foam in fluffy foam. Aroma is brown sugar, caramel, toffee, raisins, and bready, toasty, nutty malts. It's slightly sweet overall, with the malts reigning it in just a touch towards the end. Flavor profile brings this same dynamic forward, with just a little more fullness. It hits notes of caramel, brown sugar, raisins, and bready, toasty, nutty malts. Sweetness is a little more mild here, better shaped by the malts following the initial sweet notes. Mouth feel is medium-thin with a semi-creamy texture. Overall, big depth of flavor, especially for an NA brown ale. Well executed brew! One knock here is this beer is dated 11/24/2020, but was sold to me directly through Athletic's site on 02/21/2021, almost a clean clean months later. Buying old beer from a store is understandable as retailers could order a little too much of a product, but also avoidable since educated buyers could check the canning date. Buying old beer directly from the brewery (especially when the beer disappeared from their retail website for some time between this beer's canning date, and my order) is out-flat disappointing, considering both the buyer cannot check the date, and that the brewery knowingly held onto beer for a later release. Knocking one point off for that. Otherwise, in all honesty, this is a really fantastic NA beer and an otherwise great 'normal' beer.

Look: This beer pours dark brown and appears opaque in the glass. When held to the light and as I drink the beer down it’s translucent with brown and ruby. Let’s call it chestnut. A finger of khaki colored head disappears but leaves a lot of lacing. No visible carbonation. Nice looking beer.

Smell: The first thing I pick up is a fruity ale yeast that reminds me of an English ale. Some red grape, raisin and apple. A dry and nutty note too. The two play nicely together. Clean aroma for an N/A beer.

Taste: This is also a very clean tasting N/A beer, especially for the age. On the tip of the tongue you get that fruity sweetness. But it’s not as sweet as the smell. Mid palate the beer dries out with a nutty flavor. Some bready malt sweetness and perhaps a touch of earthy hop. A slightly sweet tea flavor as the beer warms.

Feel: As with all Athletic beers I’ve had, well carbonated. Light bodied and dry.

Overall: This one does brown ale things for me that I like. I’d consider it an English style brown ale. Any hops bring a little earthy layer to the beer. This beer is probably a banger fresh. Definitely would buy this again. It’s one of the better N/A beers I’ve had, and perhaps the one I’ve most enjoyed sipping.

L - 2-finger creamy beige-white head atop a translucent reddish brown body. This one’s a looker. Head retention is excellent.

S - caramel, brown bread, wort, a little nutty. Some floral hops. Pretty much how I would expect a brown ale to smell.

T - sweetened bread pudding. Very bready, with caramel, brown sugar, powdered nuts, cocoa, vanilla. The wort taste is there but very much camoflauged. Moderate-low bitterness. Moderate sweetness.

F - medium, slightly creamy body with appropriate carb. The first Athletic brew I’ve noticed with oats, and it makes a difference.

O - very convincing. Athletic really knows how to make a na dark beer taste like it’s not na. The complexity they built into the taste, between malt and hop selection, makes this work so well. I really enjoy their stout but this is even better.

 

Taste is sorghum, sandalwood and light brown sugar. Light bodied, sweet with moderate carbonation. Nice and solid brown ale. Solid but not mind blowing. Great for a low alcohol beer.--Edit on 10-17. After having several of these I like this. Malty and tasty. I cannot stop going to these as night closers.

A: The beer is hazy brown in color. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that died down a bit but never completely faded away.
S: Light aromas of sorghum-like malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste has a bit of sorghum flavors to it, but these are mostly masked by stronger flavors of dark, caramel, and roasted malts. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The taste of this beer is quite malty for a non-alcoholic beer and definitely isn't bland compared to some of the other beers in the style.
