Brief notes taken in Amsterdam in Summer 2012:

Served on-draught into Brand-branded glassware.

HEAD: 2 fingers worth of head. Soft and creamy. Of fair thickness. Good retention.

BODY: Clear yellow. Obviously filtered.

AROMA: Light creaminess. 2-row barley. Helles malts. Rather plain and uninspired, suggesting an insipid brew. Very light in terms of aromatic intensity.

TASTE: Soft creaminess and stale 6-row barley. Just 2 notes here and that's it...this is dreadfully simple. Lacks balance in spite of its plainness and simplicity. Shallow. Just downright bad.

TEXTURE: Smooth and wet, but too thick and lumpy to feel refreshing. Fails to complement the flavours or to elevate the beer as a whole.

OVERALL: Difficult to drink given its low quality. Maybe I got a pour from a bad keg or through dirty tap lines?

I find pilseners pretty boring, especially considering the wide range of other brewing options available nowadays, but the hoppy character of this one makes it stand out of the (macro-)crowd.

Looks attractive because of it's beautiful, bright color. Unfortunately, the taste did not live up to the expectations set by it's look, as it tasted much too metallic for me. Had to almost fight my way through the glass.

A – Fairly light golden colour with a deep two finger head of white foam that has good retention with good lacing.

S – Heavy malt aromas with a mild hop hint and citrus hint.

T – A really decent if expected malt front but there is a nice hop kick at the back end to keep things interesting.

MF – Astringent and slightly drying.

O – Pretty good I think this one is at least above average.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short bright white head that quickly died down and left a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Faint aromas of Pilsener malts are present in the nose along with notes of floral hops.
T: The taste has flavors of bready malts along with hints of adjuncts and a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is clean and goes down very easy. It isn't a bad representation of the style.

22 Oct 2012 saw me, my wife and 26 other members of the CAMRA Investors club have a wonderful afternoon as guests of the brewery: after a film show and giuded tour of the brewery we adjourned to the tasting celler bar where we were given seven different brews to taste: I had plenty of each!

This was the most tasteless of the beers offered: I had to have two glasses (on-tap), just be sure it was as bland as I thought it was after the first glass.

Looked like Mr Average Pilsner, golden, clear and of course it was as fresh as you are going to get: but it was just a wet fizzy drink that a few hops and a hand full of malts had been dropped in. Very disappointing, especially as we were being looked after so well. I've been kind with my scoring!

Another easily obtainable beer in the Dutch supermarkets, that I haven't reviewed.
Bottle of 300 ml of course.
The colour is golden yelo, with a nice creamy two finger white head, with very good retention. Average activity in the glass. The head disappears leaving light lacing oaound the glass.
Smell is almost non-existent, very faint malts.
Taste is not bad, quite on the hoppy side.Aftertaste is also bitter.
Average thinness on the body, slight carbonation.
Overall, this is one of your better options in a dutch supermarket, if you want to stay away from Heineken and Grolsch.

Catch up rating. Bottle from store in Vaals. A very nice pilsner , a nice big white head with a light yellow body and lazy carbonation. Fresh, tasty and refreshing, one of the best Dutch pilsners I’ve tried.

This lager seems to be the beer of choice in the Limburg region of the Netherlands. Let's see what it has to offer.

Pours a crystal clear yellow-gold with short-lived fizzy head. No retention, lacing. Boring.

Aroma is hardly fragrant: sweetly grainy, with a touch of grassy hops. Not a whole lot here.

Flavor is lightly bitter and quenching, with a sort of contrived sweetness that bears no real malt flavor. Grainy, almost corny. Not bad, just uninspiring. Finish is nice and clean, though, and the mouthfeel was spritzy and refreshing. With this beer's unoffensive character, I could throw a few back no problem.

I guess this is better than some mass-produced, northern European pilsners, but it's still pretty much par for me.

Drank this one in Amsterdam in bierbar in de Wildeman. Tapped in the original glass from Brand this pilsener shows itself from its best side. A very nice pilsener for the warm day we had in Amsterdam.

A nice big white head with a lightyellow fluid and almost no carbonation.

Fresh, tasty and 'can i have another one?' This is definetly one of the better Dutch pilseners.

Regular pilsener that you end up with at a restaurant most of the times.

A: The wellknowm yelow/white pattern.

S: Grains, hops and some hay/grass.

T: Grains, hops and a slightly bitter aftertaste.

M: Medium carbonation and a very light body.

D: Good enough to flush away some shoarma and on warm summer days.

Poured into a regular pilsner glass. The beer pours a clear yellow-golden color with a big fluffy white head.

Smell: Grains, hops and some grass (yeast) and some very well hidden fruits.

Taste: Typical pilsner taste, although in this one the grains are a bit more present, nice, fresh and hoppy (slightly bitter) aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium-high carbonation and a watery-body (typical for a pilsner)

Overall: Nice pilsner, perfect football beer.

A: It's filtered, so it looks good. You want a 5.0 for appearence? Make it look like this without filtering!

S: Good noble hop aroma, nice fresh and earthy smell - hints of flowers. Also, some malt aromas underneath.

T: The flavour is well-balanced, though certainly at the hoppier end of the scale as a proper pilsner should be (none of yer bland Heineken nonsense here). Strong bitter finish. This beer is certainly all about the hops, though the malt does support well with slight underlying sweetness detectable.

M: Good, dry, well-carbonated and refreshing. Perhaps a little too much astringency.

D: Very drinkable beer. This would be a good one for the summer.

All in all, I think this is one of the best pilsners from the big Dutch breweries - I believe they're actually owned by Heineken now but fortunately you'd never know it from the beer.

Typical Pilsener appearance: golden yellow, very clear, a moderate white head and lots of carbonation.

Aroma is hoppy and a bit musty, with some delicate estery fruity notes and a good dose of grainy malt. A pefectly balanced nose and quite succulent.

The taste is somewhat sweeter than the smell and again a bit grainy. It finishes rather dry and hoppy-bitter, with a refreshing sourness to it. The flavors really gains complexity when the beer has warmed up a bit. More fruity notes develop and the aftertaste becomes a little salty.

Body is medium with a smooth mouthfeel and rather strong carbonation.

A pure and natural flavoured beer, untouchable by some of the more popular Dutch Pilseners.
