Spike from England
3.58/5 rDev +7.5%
look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.5
A very conflicted brew. Looks great. A lustrous, crystal clear, deep amber colour ale poured from a beautiful, embossed bottle. Smells strongly of spicy, funky, Belgian yeast. Mouthfeel is smooth and rich with more than a hint of alcohol. But the taste is all over the place. Boozy & yeasty fighting against a bucketload of citrusy New World hops. It’s basically an AIPA style beer (brewed with Cascade, Amarillo & Citra hops) but utilising Belgian yeast. Not sure it works.

Look: Pale gold-amber, big white head that dissipates slowly, lots of bubbles on the inside of the glass.
Smell: Hops, crackers. Kind of sweet undertones, similar to the corn scent in some light beers.
Taste: Bittersweet, again with the corn, with a strong bready taste, not a lot of hops really. I'm getting what others have said, it's not the strongest IPA around; tastes more like a bitter pilsner.
Feel: Moderately full bodied, light carbonation, leaves a dry mouthfeel.
Overall: Again, as others have said, doesn't taste like much of an IPA. Fine beer for just relaxing I guess, but not really what it claims to be.

33cl bottle bought in Amsterdam grocery store.
BB July 2019...(a 1-year shelf life appears std. here).
Tastes like any of the big local pilseners (Heineken, Grolsch, etc.) with a long hop boil added on.
ie. this is a watery pilsener that has been seriously bittered. Perhaps more similar to the original English IPAs than the style has evolved into, but his is not what I would pay a premium price for today.

To me, it's not a real IPA or, at least, not how I envision an IPA. Relatively neutral smell, hoppy and chemical. Taste is essentially malty with some biscuit sweetness, yet no sign of fruit at all. There is hops, for sure, but it doesn't feel well integrated, just a bitter taste alongside the malt, nor any of the "resin" tastes that to me make a great IPA great. The finish is rather cloying, like the sensation when you've had an overly sweet dessert and you're desperate for coffee (or a pilsner) to clean your mouth with.

Pours leaving no head. The first taste leaves you wondering. Why does the label say IPA? The hop is hardly noticable. It Isn't bad. Certainly not good. And definitely no IPA. Aftertaste? None. This is one poor excuse for an IPA. I guess the hops were out of season or too expensive or they just could not be bothered. I might have been less harsh if they had made up their own name for this brew but now I feel betrayed. They just want to surf on the IPA wave without taking the effort of actually making an IPA.

Bottle (expire day 7 August 2017) at P60 cafė in Amstelveen. Not exactly an ipa but had a couple of them cause i liked it and found it drinkable. No hops on the nose, maybe some yests. Good balance on the palate, as i said it's fairly drinkable even though it's supposed to be a "bad" ipa

Had on tap.
Amber golden clear color. Thick head that dissapates quickly.
Belgian notes on the nose.
Taste is more of that Belgian flavor. More like a hoppy Belgian golden ale than an IPA.
Not exactly in the IPA category but still good.

Poured to a teku glass.
A: The body is cristalline yellow to copper with no carbonation. The beer has a small white head with no retention but with some reasonable lacing.
S: The aroma is mostly resinous with a hint of citrus.
T: The taste is resinous as the aroma presents but it's mostly sweet and citrusy.
M: Harsh carbonation that has a medium body. Bitterness is not that strong for a regular IPA.
O: My first Brand beer, quite alright but shoudl've been better.

This IPA pours a rich and brilliant gold, producing a small off-white, creamy head that dissipates quickly. The nose has evident hops and malt. It has a medium-full body with some lingering bitterness. It is much less bitter than expected and has hints of orange marmalade. Nice lacing develops. The finish is short and slightly bitter with hints of peach pits. It is pleasant and not particularly moreish. While it is thirst-quenching it made me hungry. The 7% ABV is not noticeable and may take a drinker by surprise. I would try it again but will not seek it out.

Incredibly clear pale orange colour, small head that disappears fast. In the nose there is some malt, some fruits, mainly orange and peach. Bitter finish but there is not much there during the main sip. A bit thin, dry finish, medium carbonation. Rather mediocre but not a bad beer, I would drink this again.

Points for effort for the first fairly decent IPA from a Dutch mainstream brewer. A bit more guts and it may go somewhere. You're on to something, don't let it slip!

Dark yellow/orange colour with a lacing of foam that disappears fast. Nice flowery IPA smell, though it's a bit weak. Same goes for the taste: flowery and citric, but it could have been more pronounced. The aftertaste is nice though: The bitterness is not that high, which makes the flavours of the hops themselves (grapefruit, pine, flowers, resin) more present. The aftertaste lingers well. A decent IPA, though too weak for the experienced hophead.
