UP, Urtyp Pilsner, 'original type pilsner'. 30 cl bottle.

Looks straw colour, with thin head, good lacing. Good carbonation in a clear lager.
Smell of pilsner: malty and yeasty, with grassy hops. Also present is a more complex smell of citrus and garden herbs.
Taste similar, but a bit less pronounced.
Mouthfeel is pleasant smooth of bittersweetness. Balanced malty sweet and hoppy bitter.
The 5.5% abv is well integrated into the whole experience.

Recommended in the style of lager. Very nice overall.

Brown 33cl bottle reviewed during on of my 'Pilsner/Lager' tasting evenings. It had two months life on being poured into my stemmed 'La Chouffe' tulip.

Really pale, just like a Helles should be, medium sized white head.

Usual odourless lager/pilsner, gets my regular score of 3 for smell.

It may well be clean and clear, it is also almost tasteless, but strangely I enjoyed it.

Refreshing and drier than I normally prefer my lager based beers, this one however touched the spot as it were.

Poured from a 300 ml bottle. Colour is faded yellow, that of hay, totally transparent. Small quantity of bubbles at the bottom of the glass. One finger head that quickly dissolves but not entirely, thus still covering the beer's surface.
Smell of malt.Taste is bitter and leaving an equally if not more bitterness after the sip has gone down. Also, a bit metallic..
Thin bodied on palate and dry. Thankfully, not as watery as I was expecting from its colour. Medium carbonation.
Overall, not that different from your typical lager, except maybe from the stronger bitterness.

A clear golden beer with a small head and some easy going carbonation.

Smell is flowery and light fruity, malt is light and there is a hoppy smell, which probably also causes the flowery smell, along with the yeast.

Taste is bitter and flowery, herbal, almost like green tea or cactus. There is a slight sweetness that balances the above-average bitterness. Great balance and interesting taste. Body is medium to thin. Drinkability is great. A great beer, one of the best pilseners in Holland.

BB 6-6

I enjoy the golden color with good lacing of this beer, it got a malty noise with just enough hop (saaz?). Also a bit fresh fruity flavor. Nice bitter taste, hoppy and a little spicy.
Somewhat dry, light body. Good average length aftertaste containing hops and spicy elements.
Good German pilsener style.

Urtyp is the "replacement" for the Up beer from Brand. Has a very good and lasting head and beautifull clear golden color. Nose is very good also being malty and lots of probably Saaz hops. Taste is a bit of a dissapointment then being lightmalty, flowery and moderate bitter. Is litle empty then in mouthfeel also but a good and very easy drinking Pils/Helles witch I enjoyed more then one at the Beyerd in Breda.

Had this beer in a Grolsch pint glass. Beers pours like a typical lager (yellow-straw color) with nice two finger-thick, snow-white head.

Smell: malts, flowery-bitter hops and some fresh fruity hints (lemon?)

Taste: Bitter, herbal with some hints of sweetness, which as other users also mentioned, nicely balance the beer. Bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: like a typical lager. Medium-high carbonation with thin body.

Overall: Nice and refreshing. I like the bitterness in the beer. Very good for the style.

Had in 2015 in Amsterdam.
MJ's "Guide" gave it 2.5 of 4 stars calling it "beautifully balanced and elegant, with a long finish."

I wasn't expecting much, because of some other disappointing Brand beers I tried and because I generally do not care much for lagers/pilseners. But this was a pleasant surprise. The bitter aftertaste lingers on and makes it last, There isn't much more to it than the bitterness (36 EBU) but it is enough to make me enjoy it. It did not convert me to a lager lover but I guess this is a good one.

Clear straw yellow colour with a medium sized head that quickly dissolves. Very fresh smell of grass, malt, citric and flowers. This continues in the taste, albeit a bit weaker. Malt tends to dominate a bit too much here. Due to the hops, the finish has some hints of grapefruit. Aftertaste has a nice bitterness and some resin flavour that lingers very well. Not something i would immediately buy again, but still quite good for a lager. Makes me wonder why macro breweries don't simply choose to brew their euro lagers more like this.

L - pale golden, white head
S T - pale malts, very clean. Slightly dry. Noble hops reminding me of a Victorian garden. Grassy, clean, dew, and flowers, interestly enough. Really nice.
F - nothing of note

O - very nice. Quite flowery. One of the more enjoyable lagers I've had in a long, long, long while.

I would recommend this one. One of the better easily available lagers you can drink.
