On tap at the Elliott Glacier Public House. The colour was basically black but with a thin garnet edge at the base of the glass. The aroma was loaded with chocolate, cocoa mass and malt. The palate was dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, marshmallow and a bit o' booze, with a medium finish.

Ghost Ridge Imperial Stout is a characteristic Parkdale beer. It has no lace, a skeletal head, and a raw wortish flavor. I liken it to a sleeping lion for its tremendous power beneath a tranquil exterior. No, make that a panther; this beer is black as midnight.

It begins with an original gravity of 1.072, a shade light for an imperial though the heavy, sullen body, the glassy mouthfeel, the sweet maltose taste, and the relatively modest 7.6% ABV all suggest a beer of modest attenuation.

Not a problem.

Ghost Ridge tastes like sherry wine with roasted barley. The aroma is built on dark roast but also caramel candy. The flavor likewise touches upon caramel and molasses.

Another fine dessert beer, but be advised: it draws fruit flies like a magnet.
