Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Not to be confused with their English Style Pale.

"Our Pale Ale has a fresh, hoppy aroma that comes from two (top secret) Northwest hop varieties, while two-row Pale and Crystal malt give it a mild sweetness that finishes clean and crisp. Feeling out of whack? Put on some music, crack a Pale Ale, and readjust your balance.

A light golden-copper pale ale with a white head that falls to a thin collar and leaves good, sticky lacing. Smell is fruity--peaches, apples, perhaps apricots, with some perfume, floral, resiny hop notes. Taste follows suit--fruity and a little sweet, estery/yeasty, soft, nutty maltiness and a little lemony. Fruity malt dominates, with a somewhat subdued hop bitterness balancing throughout. A bit of a "steely" quality detracted from the taste and mouthfeel is a little thin.

Not your typical west coast "hops-through-the-roof" affair, tending more toward fruity and estery. Ultimately, a little boring in my book, though solidly crafted. A good quaffable pale ale.

Very pleasant and fragrant. Nice hoppy aromas but restrained bitterness. A darker amber than typical with a modest head but well carbonated in the mouth. Tangy flavors with a good dose of malt are the best features. Floral hops provide enough bitterness in the aftertaste. This really does hit the spot for an unassuming beery brew with a nice balance of hops and malt.

For the trifecta of pleasant fragrant pale ales, stop at Trader Joe's and pick up this one along with Stone and Mission St.

Pours a medium amber.
Smell is a faint sweet citrus.
Taste is a little sweet caramel malt on the front and a buttery
faintly bitter finish.

Pours a nice clear orange color with a small white head.
Smell is sweet malts, grain and citrusy.
Taste is surprising big malts and grains driving a huge truck down the middle of the tongue, strong and long. The hops however race quickly in, packing a small quick Bruce Lee punch.
I've had this before and been shocked by the huge malty backbone. It is very drinkable, and goes down easy. Maybe a little too easy...

My first bottle of this APA left me unimpressed, however the next four (not all at once mind you) have caused me to rethink my first impressions.
The color is clear light gold. Solid head and solid lacing. Very nice pine hop smell. Taste is very good with a nice hop flavor to it. Very light malt flavor. Just before it starts to sour it starts to dry out. I might like a tad bit more hop flavor but then it would be an IPA for sure.

Bottle received as an extra from a generous BA thanks!

Appearance: Pours orange with slightly yellow folds. Minimal off white crown with minimal retention and lace.

Smell: Tangelo orange, earthy hops, and a biscuit malt. Not spectacular.

Taste: Hops taste a bit of the English persuasion to me, but I'm getting a slight cold. Tangelo flavor again over a lightly sweet malt.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and fairly crisp.

Drinkability: Goes down easy. I'd give it a 5.0 if it tasted better.
