Presentation: 12 fluid ounce bottle picked up at Trader Joes. Has the newer but still generic Full Sail Label. This one is yellow, orange with dark blue and the “IPA” in green text. Listed as 6.0% By Vol. Braille like punching has Enjoy By: 070606.

Appearance: Easy single pour of the 12 ounce into my 20 ounce Mug produces a large off-white head that leaves a lasting set of lace rings as I work my way down the drink. Golden-amber body with a very clean filtered presentation. A handful of lazy streamers punctuate the torso. Looks pretty good at first but the head dies down before the end of the drink and lessens the overall mark.

Nose: Light toasted malts, floral twists with a background orange peel. Very earthy, almost musty such as that experienced from old faded hops. Finishes with a gentle herbal quality but the musty nature tends to be off-putting.

Taste: Citric entrance, lemon soaked malts with…..wait a minute, here comes that earthy musty faded hop aspect. Now it’s starting to really annoy me. It tastes old, like a faded English IPA, where are the fresh hops!? Bitterness breaks through the faded hop character but its low end stuff.

Mouthfeel: Average carbonation does lend a helping hand but it cannot rescue this IPA from certain blandness.

Drinkability: I picked up a Six-Pack of the IPA at Trader Joe’s on the strength of the lovely Pale Ale. I soooo wish I hadn’t.

Overall: I enjoy the odd Full Sail Amber Ale, and I dearly love the Pale Ale, so I’m very disappointed with the IPA, I expected so much more. I am at a loss to think as to why I should even buy this because the IPA doesn’t seem to sufficiently differentiate itself enough from the excellent Pale Ale. Under-hopped with a dank musty feel, and sloppy malts. Tastes like something Greene King. Urghh!!!

Poured a 12 ounce dark brown bottle with a clearly marked freshness date into a pint style glass.

A: Pours with a good amount of head, excellent lacing on the glass as well. Body is a bright, inviting looking pale orange.

S: Citrusy hops all the way!

T: This brew is almost makes me think of what it would be like to squeeze the perfect fruit and get some kind of awesome hop juice flavor out of it. The sip starts off with a good amount citrus hop flavor that is just slightly offset to a perfect balance (especially for an IPA). After this, the "hop juice" flavor I referenced above kicks in. It's slightly sweet, very refreshing, and an awesome blend of all kinds of good citrusy flavors. Hop bitterness kicks in at the end and it leaves a good trail behind along with the estercy flavors.

M: Very good and substantial but thin enough that it's not overdone.

D: I tried Full Sail's Pale Ale not so long ago and was highly impressed. Their IPA is simply exceptional in my humble opinion. I think a majority of people who don't like this IPA are probably the ones who fall into the trap of thinking that for an IPA, the "more bitter the better". In my opinion, that is not how a beer should be judged. This brew is simply outstanding for drinkability. Plenty bitter, but highly balanced. What a concept for an IPA. Kudos to Full Sail for not falling into the "the more bitter the better the IPA" war.

A: FS IPA has a beautiful pale amber body, great head retention, and outstanding lacing. The bottom on my Perfect Pint is a storm of pinhead bubbles, forming swirling torrents of bubbles. Clarity is good, with only a touch of haze.

S: The lively bouquet is marked by juniper, grapefruit, and rosemary.

T: Dry, with a nice bread-like flavor that is dominated by Pacific Northwest hops. Light, dry, and refreshing.

M: Light, heavily effervescent, and clean on the finish.

D: A highly sessionable IPA in a world dominated by boozy hop-bombs. It's nice to see people sticking to the classics in an era where it's taboo to do so.

Dark orange to amber. Some sudsiness. Not much head, nor lace.

Very mild aroma. Light floral hopping and biscuity malts. Faint sweet soapiness.

English style malts and hops, in flavor. Grassy hops with flourishes of the citrusy and the floral. Grainy amber notes with a rugged light toastiness. Hoppiness is disappointingly mild.

Gruff feel with charging bubbles. Body is even. Medium, but feels thinner behind the carbonation.

a - poured a one finger thick off-white head into a tulip glass that left a thin ring and sheet. the body was a hazy dark amber color.
s - acquired this in a trade about a month ago. the freshness date on the bottle says 090509 so i'm assuming this is a 2009. hence the hop aroma is almost gone. there is a sweet caramel breadiness that dominates the aroma.
t - same caramel and bread taste. just the faintest of hop flavor.
m - medium.
d - i probably shouldn't rate this beer here but i'm leaving this disclaimer that this would probably be a much better beer if it wasn't almost 2 years old.

Good stuff, had on a whim at Papago Brewing in Scottsdale, looking for an IPA that wasnt too intense. Found what I wanted. Smelled delicious, nice and fruity with bitter notes at the end, hits you in the back of the nose. Already, I am anticipating a good beer, hoping the flavors lives up to the smell. Too often the hops are in the aroma, but fizzle out after the first sip. This one, they stick around through the whole pint. Pleasant. Would order it again.

Pours a 2 finger head that quickly dissipates. Clear amber color.

Almost nothing on the nose. The faintest hops and caramel malts. I get next to nothing on the nose.As the beer warms some cooked vegetable notes come out, smells like cooked corn

The taste is of weak caramel malts with weak hops. This is an IPA? Tastes more like a regular pale ale that is moderately hopped. There is a hop bitterness with a slight caramel malting sweetness, but it's very bleh. Nothing exciting. Very boring beer. Not bad. The malts and hops are there, but they are faint and boring. As the beer warms I get a cooked corn taste in the backround.
More of an english ipa than american.

Decent carbonation on the palate, clings fairly well. I would like it a little less carbonated.

If you want to try a new beer, pick this up, but there are much better IPAs out there.

This was part of a make-your-own 6'er from Wegmans. Now I remember why I don't do that often. No bottled-on date.

Appearance: crystal clear gold with a white head. Average lacing.

Smell: more malt than citrus/spice; something's off.

Taste: just like it smells (i.e. unbalanced). My first thought is this is a beer past its prime.

Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation.

Drinkability: a poor representative of the style.

Extremely underwhelming IPA. In fact the hops taste was so underwhelming, I wonder if I just got a bad batch. Bubbliness was also underwhelming. I had a hard time even considering this to be an IPA. It came off as a very weak pale ale. Again, it was so marked, I wonder if I just didn't get a good bottle. Smell was nice and pleasant, but again, not as strong or distinct with hops or fruit compared to many other IPAs. Aftertaste was pleasant but again, not strong in any way. Appearance was good in color and head retention, but I don't really care about those as much as taste.

Edit: poured another bottle and this one was just as bed. In fact there was no head to speak of thus nothing to cling to the sides.

Served this 12 oz. brown bottle in a Sam Adams glass. No date, but coded 022412. The body was bright gold and clear. The white head persisted a while.

The smell was leafy, fresh grains, and clean.

The taste was caramel malt and crisp hops. Coarse, raspy, as spicy. Slightly drying. Well constructed, simple but solid. I will definitely seek this one out again.

The mouthfeel was medium bodied and it had a smoothness that finished a bit coarse.

As this IPA poured I could smell citrus and malt. In the glass it was amber with a thin head. Carbonation was lively, and seemed to overpower the malt and citrus leaving a vacant first impression in the mouth. Hops, though never overpowering took over in the finish.
