A: opaque; very dark brown in color; 1 finger finely pored medium brown head that receded to a thin collar; very nice lacing;
S: deeply roasted grain first, then a bit of salt added in, then overwhelmingly soy sauce;
T: deeply roasted grain and bittersweet chocolate up front; there's an undercurrent of salt throughout; soy sauce is in the background from the middle through the finish; the minor saltiness lasts through the aftertaste - not significant, but noticeable;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish; hides the ABV well;
O: very interesting; the soy sauce would generally be a sign of an off flavor - here, it's intentional; there's just enough to be noticed, but not enough to be obnoxious; relatively light body for such a big beer;

-jet colored can pour with a thin, tan foam cap and an aroma of toasted malt and a bit of molasses.
The most prominent flavor is toasted malt with a bit of char. There is a slightly salty aspect (miso?) which balances syrupy sweetness. The hop bitterness is is significant for the style.
The mouthfeel is smooth but not thick.
I like this brew and would have it again.

DATE: April 17, 2021... OCCASION: enjoying a family TV night with a beer I have been waiting for the right night to crack open....unfamiliar wit miso as a soup, this should be interesting! GLASSWARE: Citrabellum pokal tulip... pours a lively jet-black body whose dividing line between it and its light tan, thickened head constantly shifts it bubbling demarcation... a pleasant, airy aroma begins with cocoa, light roasted coffee, fragrant flowers, and a candied, bubble gum-like suggestion that makes this a bit different from an imperial stout's usual trademark... nice, thickening rings as the glass drains... each sip is a grainy, textured draw with activity at the teeth, a bit of warmth in the mouth, and a lingering presence at the throat--but all of this belies its eleven-plus heft... it also has a smooth, frothy consistency that approximates a latte--a comfort drink, for sure... soft cocoa, roasted coffee, vanilla, and a lactic appreciation that makes this a dessert-like experience... this one came courtesy of BA's Extreme Beer Fest, and what a treat--a Japanese flavor from a Brazilian brewer is just another example of a healthy beer culture...

It’s more imperial Russian than imperial Japanese, but it’s a fine brew. A bit strong, but fine. Not sure if an additional sake type sting would have helped, but it’s still a fine brew.

Dark brown, thin head. Sweet aroma of caramel, malt & chocolate. tastes sweet with some mild bitterness. Lots of nice flavors; dark chocolate, roasted malt, alcohol. Mild heat, thick enough to coat the tongue. Excellent!

Roast from start to finish. Starts with mild sweetness which evolves into a dry, mild salty, bitter finish. Old School Russian Imperial Stout, with modern twist of bitterness and saltiness. Well Done

This one had a beautiful color and a nice aroma, but it just tasted bitter to me. I didn't really notice any hint of Miso in the taste, and the bitterness reminded me more of an IPA than a Russian Imperial Stout.

Did not expect this one to be nearly as good as it was. Overall kind of a light stout in terms of roast character, but that is what let the miso really shine. Strong, roasty umami flavors and a subtle sweetness made this a very unique and delicious beer. Would be my pick for best in show at the '21 extreme beer fest.

Medium black with a finger of brown foam and light lacing. Aromas of roasted and chocolate malt, soy, and miso. Taste is much the same, but it delivers so well with the roasted malt, slight booze and earth up front with the miso and chocolate finishing for the second half of the sip. Medium bodied, velvet smooth, slightly smoky and full bodied. Really well made
