Situated in the South side of Salem..just off a very busy street. It was an independent Brewery/Pub ( founded 1990) before McMenamins took it over around 3 years ago. Some beers are still brewed on the premisies..others come from McMenamins bigger breweries.
Its quite a strange Pub ( well most MacMen places are !!)Its in a large rambling late Victorian mansion. The actual bar is tiny but cosy ( 12s a crowd in it) The restaurant tables are scattered all over both floors of the house. There is a pretty sizable beer garden out the back which is terrific fun in the Summer.
The food on offer is typical McMenamins..sandwichews, soup, burgers, hummus, etc pretty tasty.
The staff tend to be "alternative" in appearance but are very friendly and attentive..kinda laid back dude!
The selection was mostly MacMenamin bers on tap with Dead Guy Ale, Pilsner Urquell and unfortunatly Coors light thrown in. It was great that in the 4 hours I was there i did not see a single Coors light pint being poured..and it was extremelly busy with families etc in the restaurant.
All in all a cool neighboourhood hang out!

I wish I had a better understanding of what this Public House was trying to achieve. Atmosphere is very relaxed, situated off a busy South Salem arterial in a converted two-story vintage home. Easy to have conversations as there are many nooks and fairly private seating opportunities often available. And, if you don't want to be pestered by the wait staff - no worries since you may be ignored to the point of neglect. Don't go here if you are in a hurry because if you are, you most likely will be disappointed by the very slow service. Don't use the restaurant if you want to drink like a fish; try the bar instead.

The beer is decent, but never great. Food is surprisingly good once it arrives. I indicated a bit pricey just for the beer compared to better venues in town.

A great place to spend a blustery afternoon with good food and decent beer and no TVs.

One of apparently dozens of McMenamins in the Portland area, this location is in Salem on Liberty a little ways from I-5. There is a decent sized private lot.

The place literally looks like a house both outside and in. Upon entering, the cozy bar is immediately to the right. There are several bar seats and a couple small tables in there. A large board displays what beers are on tap. I believe I saw a couple wines on tap as well. Other areas of the space are devoted to restaurant seating. We sat upstairs and it really felt like it was someone's house except with tables everywhere, plus some posters and other decorations. Needless to say dining in a relatively small and quiet room with a couple other tables was kind of different.

McMenamins beers on tap in Salem number 7, and 6 are available in a sampler for $6.95. They include the standard APA, IPA, Porter and Stout, and a couple more unique brews like a Strong Ale and Ginger Red. All of the beers were slightly above average, with the Pole-Ax Strong Ale being the one standout.

Service was pretty good on our visit. Our server was prompt with everything and was able to speak to the beers they carried.

Dinner on a weekend evening was good. We both enjoyed our sandwiches.

Overall the beers really don't stack up to most of the great Portland brewers, but if passing through or visiting Salem it is worth a stop.

Looks like an old house that was turned into a restaurant and brew pub at some point. The bar itself is little, but the restaurant is broken into small, intimate rooms. The atmosphere is improved by a fair amount of wood work and paneling around the restaurant and also the tables and booths.
The beer was the expected McMenamins, which includes the pretty respectable Terminator Stout, and some other seasonal and year-round brews. The guest taps were taken up with Bud Light - not a positive in the least, in my opinion - and also Pilsner Urquell. The food was the Mc expected and not overly priced or overly spectacular, but it is very sufficient versions of the standard pub fair. I enjoyed my Capt. Neon Burger. With reasonably priced food and beer, although I will admit a fair amount of disapointment with the majority of beers I've had at their locations, I find Thompson's to be a nice place, but nothing overly unique compared to its brother stores or other brew pubs I've been to.

This is one McMenamins that stands out. The brewer brews some special stouts. It is an old house that became an independent brew pub, then became a part of the McBeer empire (and that is good). I love McMenamin properties. This one is my favorite one in Salem.

Small bar area where everyone likes to visit. Several dining areas each distinct. And in season a great outdoor garden.

They have the McMenamin standard fare which is good by pub standards and you can not beat the fires. Every week they have specials and these arre pretty good.

And for desert my favorit Terminator.
