On tap at the brewery. Very thick and deep black, featuring a Guinness style nitro-head that takes about a minute to stop cascadeing. The nose had faint notes of spoiled milk, not quite what I was expecting. The body is very full and viscous, especially for a beer of this relatively low strength. Deep notes of black and burnt malts, almost like burnt toast. Dry finish. The uniqueness keeps it interesting, but there's just as many things I detect as off-flavors in the background to make me keep my distance. If anything, it's the deepest, thickest, heaviest low-abv beer I've had yet. Good but not great, and definately worth the time if you're passing through Sac. Cheers!

Note: this is posted as an American stout, but the style they're trying to acheive is clearly a dry Irish stout.

Pretty weak for a stout, but that doesn't kill any of the flavor! Beer at the Rubicon brewpub poured a beautiful deep and dark molasses coloring, with the right amount of carbonation and lace. Goes down real smooth and has very low IBU. The aroma is light and oaky and the beer itself is smooth

A: Black with a creamy tan head.

S: Nose is faint, just a little malt and roasted malt.

T: Chocolate is the dominant flavor, some espresso and dark roast coffee as well.

M: Nice full creamy body and smooth.

O: Your standard nitro stout, but perhaps a bit more complex. Recommended if you like Guinness, but would prefer your stouts with a bit more complexity.

On tap at the brew pub. One finger of tan head on a black body.
The smell is all roasted malt. One sided but good.
The taste is roasted malt with a mild bitterness.
The texture is crisp with low carbonation and medium body.
A little disappointing mild flavor and lighter body for a stout. Drinks more like a dark ale than a stout.

On tap at Rubicon Brewing. Pours a dark brown with thin tan head. Nice roasty character to the nose. Coffee comes through alongside that big roasty flavor with a trace of carbonation. It's sort of a light stout, but it doesn't lose flavor. I thought it was a pretty solid beer.

On nitro-tap at Rubicon on 7/15/09.

A - Deep, dark brown with ruby hues around the edges and one0finger creamy tan cap that retained very well and deposited elaborate lacing around the glass.

S - Nice roasted aroma with a hefty dose of coffee and sweet chocolate and lactic notes. Scant hop presence overall.

T - Opens with a pleasant roasty flavor with equal parts coffee and chocolate, which creates a dual bittersweet character. Finishes with a slight earthy hop character.

M - Medium body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Finish is fairly dry wth a touch of bitterness on the palate.

D - The attractive nitro pour revealed a very solid and tasty dry Irish stout with a good mix of coffee and chocolate flavors and a touch of hop bitterness thrown in for good measure.

On nitro-tap at Rubicon, this is an excellent Irish-style Dry Stout (despite the categorisation here), light and easy to drink yet full-flavoured and well-balanced in character.

It is black with a creamy, lasting, light tan head that leaves nice lace.

The aroma is mild troasty grain, faint hints of smokey leaves, coffee and chocolate, but mostly roasted grain.

The taste is full, very toasty and roasty but not overly so, clean, restrain, and smooth, with dry coffee, hints of chocolate, black pepper, and singed leaves. All is nicely balanced and it is very smooth. The feel is full, a bit creamy, and not watery.

A. Had a pint on tap at the brewery. Thick two finger head of an offwhite dense foam, could not see one single bubble. S. Not much aroma here, very slight coffee notes, and a bit for sweet malt. T. This is a very good tasting simple stout. it has just what it needs and nothing more, it strats off with a creemy vanilla and moves to a roasted coffee. Then finish sweet and dry. M. This being a nitro tap was very silky, it stats with a larger mouth feel and then finishs fairly dryO. This is a very good go to Stout. Its consistant batch to batch and is very tasty. Its not overbearing, so it goes well as a desert beer after a meal.
