This Whole Foods didn't have that upscale feel you get with most other locations. I went over to the beer area, and their beer offerings were not as good as other Whole Foods either. The prices were a little higher, which is to be expected here.

The selection is okay but you would you expect more from a Whole Foods though.

Stopped here while in Pasadena, hoping to find something cool. Unfortunately the selection was average for a Whole Foods, a few hundred beers but nothing crazy I couldn't find elsewhere. Maybe some North Coast Anniversary beers which are getting a little ripe.

Whole Foods locations can be crazy good (Tustin, Dublin, San Francisco), average, or crazy bad (Greenwich, Palatine). Pasadena falls into the middle category. It could be worse but its not worth the trouble unless you're not mobile.

Blech, disappointing.

This Whole Foods has an exceptionally larger selection than the other one in Pasadena(Arroyo PKWY). Adam, the beer specialist, is the best. He knows everything you need to know about beer and he will help you pick out the right brew for your taste. He even gets in hard-to-find beers like Parabola, Mikkeller Beer Geek, Firestone 13, etc. I always go here for my Pliny, Just Outstanding, and Denoggizer. They always have seasonal brews from Port, Stone, DeSchuttes, Avery, Firestone, The Bruery, Dog Fish Head, and AleSmith. Whole Foods Pasadena stays committed to quality and supported local businesses and it is very evident the second you look at their beer case.

Whole Foods are often up and down when it comes to beer selections, but this one isn't bad at all. The selection is excellent, with a large number of different Belgian ales that aren't refrigerated, many different imported and craft beer selections in bomber and pint sizes, and more options for six packs that most grocery stores, yet full of ones such as Stone brewery, Asian imports and British ales. Good cider and lambic selection as well, and plenty of foods to balance it out. The quality it good, as for any Whole Foods and the costs are reasonable. Service is good as well.

This place had a better than average selection of domestics and I was impressed with the Belgian selection as well. As the others have said, there is a section dedicated to belgian beers. Of note in there offerings was st. bernadus, duchesse, cantillion, wit kap pater, to name a few. The prices are average and the beer buyer keeps the shelves well stocked. Besides the beer, the place does have an excellent selection of cheeses and the bakery has some pretty tasty stuff too. Overall a worthy trip to pick up some good beers and some good food to boot.

I have been in a few Whole Foods Markets, and knew what to expect; this one was particularly good on a rainy Saturday afternoon. For those that don't know, this is an upscale grocery market and much more- focus on organic, quality, and presentation.

Now for the beer. There is a wall of beers mostly US craft with some foreign, and I drooled at that for a while. I wasn't that thrilled though, because I could get all of this at home (about 40 miles away). I was about to leave because there was no real Belgian selection (my passion). So I started walking out, and there it was, a whole separate set of shelves just for Belgian beers. All of the sudden, life was much better. Cantillon, DuPont, Moinette, Orval, and many others all in front of me. Even a few 3 liter bottles for the real stout-hearted. And of course, the non-beer market area (the cheese!!!!) was fabulous. My only complaint was the crowds and the terrible parking, but that's just overpopulation and a tribute to how well this place is liked.

I still get a shock whenever I visit my relatives in LA and realize one can buy alcohol anywhere at any time. Wine in a supermarket? Not in New York. Although my local Whole Foods has a large selection of beer, this one far surpassed it. Cases of Stone Brews (particularly Arrogant Bastard) lined the area, and the refrigerated section (large open cooler) was particularly breathtaking, with lots of germans and domestics. My preference, however, was to the right of the cooler, where they keep the Belgian Ales. They had four packs of Unibroue and Ommegangs, as well as the standard Belgians like Chimay, Duvel, Corsendonk and Orval. Again, I came across the Rochefort 10 and 8, and again I picked up a bottle. Prices were low for most stuff, and reasonable for others. The only shame is that it's far from my relatives otherwise we would have gone all the time.

Whole Foods is an amazing market, and their committment to good beer only elevated their standing in my eyes.

I've pretty much picked my way through my nearest Trader Joe's so I expanded my search to some stores I've noted on the commute home. Whole Foods Market in Pasadena turned out to be just the ticket.
The selection of beers was relatively small in area but pretty significant when looking for styles or brands not common to the area. This store carries many of the top-rated beers, including Stone, Rogue, Unibroue, etc. The store also has a section dedicated to Belgian style ales.
The quality was top-rate. Not a single A-B, Miller or Coors can to be found. The only downside I saw was no Weihenstephaner hefe-weizen (they have all the rest) and recently they lost their distributor for Brewery Ommegang, so no Hennepin or Rare Vos. I was able to get a single of Storm King Stout. Prices were fairly reasonable for some brands, slightly pricey for some others.
Service was good. They allow mixing of 6-packs - I made a sixer of SN Porter, Pale Ale, and Summerfest plus another of Stone's Pale Ale, IPA, and Levitation Ale. When I inquired about Hennepin (I found a lone 11oz. bottle on the shelf), the staff told me about the distributor and sold it to me for a drastically reduced price.
I found this store - it's really a high-end grocery store similar to an AJ's or Bristol Farms - to be a good nearby source for me to sample a pretty good variety of styles. It's becoming my weekly stop-off for new brews.
