A: dark copper in a tulip glass. Lots of lacing.

S: typical IPA, hoppy and citrusy.

T: very hoppy with citrus and pine flavors.

O: I like a strong hoppy flavor in my IPA, and this did not disappoint. Bent River is a great brewery to visit, with good food and good beer on tap.

A: The beer is quite hazy yellowish amber in color. It poured with a finger high off white head that settled down but has good retention properties, consistently leaving a short head covering the surface and lots of thick lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of caramel malts are present in the nose along with strong notes of citrusy and tropical fruit hops along with some hints of pine. As the beer warms up, aromas of mango and papaya become more prominent.
T: The taste closely follows the smell, starting off with flavors of citrus and tropical fruit hops—mango and papaya stand out in particular—and finishing with hints of piney hops, all the while supported by strong underlying notes of caramel malts. There is a moderate to strong amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and rather crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is an interesting IPA - it's like an old school version with the strong dose of caramel malts but has some interesting aromas and flavors from the Citra hops.

Bent River Brewery's Steamboat IPA - Rock Island, IL -

Aroma - Massive fruity aroma on the pour, diminishing quickly. Fruity eferveseeance is present, but not overwhelming. A solid effort for any IPA.

Appearance - Pours with a lovely amber/copper color into a 14 oz. sniffter. Lovely color, for a darker IPA.
Head quickly vanishes, leaving just traces on the edge. A bit hazy, certainly not clear, though an elegance exudes.

Taste - Hops are layered and, mostly, delicate. A solid, single-note bittering hop, asserts on the initial taste... Citra, Warrior, etc... but a steady rush of flavoring hops accompany the bass note in a crescendo of the palate. Very well balanced, and very appeasing. Malt is present, but sufficiently undertones.

Mouthfeel - Rich and luscious. Carbonation fails to maintain head, but is sufficient to enjoy, and not overwhelming. A mild bitterness meets the tongue, but is refrains from any harsh notes.

Overall - A very nice hop-forward IPA, with all of the best fruit-forward hop additions at all the right times, if you like that sort of thing. Malt is well balanced, if not outright concealed by the assertive hops. 8.5/10
