Burnished copper color. Looks a bit like a pumpkin pie beer. Tastes like it, with mostly spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Brewmaster said the idea was to lay down a base for a spicy beer, since potatoes add little more than fermatables to a beer. This is nicely turned out if you like spices outside of a hefeweiss.

A twelve ounce bottle with some cryptic code stamped on the bottle under the label. I hate when breweries just can't put a simple date on the bottle or label. Pouring this in my old school Atlas Prager sham pilsner glass.

Look- Pours a dark gold and somewhat amber color leaving a couple centimeters of off white foam that settles to a thin ring. No lacing is left behind.

Smell- A mix of strong pie spices including cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice that combined smell a bit like mouthwash. There's something earthy lingering in the back. Sweet potatoes?

Taste- An abundance of the usual pie spices. There's cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. Something earthy and cereal-like appear in the finish.

Feel- Thin, flat and boring.

Overall- It's not quite a drain pour, but close. This beer is spiced to the point that it smells and tastes like mouthwash or toothpaste. A thin artificial tasting abomination. I'm glad it was a gift and not a waste of my money.

12 oz. bottle, no bottled on date present. Acquired a single bottle of this stuff as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's. 'Wheat Ale brewed with sweet potato and spices'. My first beer from Bent River Brewing Company, based out of Rock Island, Illinois.

Poured into a Duvel tulip snifter.

A - Pours a nice crisp burnt golden orange body, appears aptly carbonated, with one finger of thin fizzy frothy off-white head with good retention. Moderate sticky fluffy lacing. Looks very nice for what it is.

S - A very unique and interesting aroma. Notes of herbs & spices, brown sugar, yeast, caramel / brown malts, nutty. Has a very marzen / oktoberfest feel to it.

T - Taste is the same: malty, nutty, toasty, notes of yeast & spices. Brown sugar, maybe some cinnamon. Wheat is subtle, but noticeable. Wouldn't guess sweet potato without being told, but there is a unique earthiness to this beer, that's for sure. Bit of cola-esque spicing.

M - Feel is smooth, crisp, clean, & easy-drinking. Light-bodied with good carb.

Overall, a unique and interesting first beer from Bent River. Would definitely be interested to try more from this brewery.

This beer pours a nice dark iced tea color with a fleeting head of only 1/2 finger, then a thin ring. 30% transparency.

Aroma is actually much like a Pumpkin ale, with cinnamon, yam, gourd, and nutmeg. It does smell delicious, like a baked pumpkin pie.

The spice flavors are there, namely cinnamon and nutmeg, followed by citrus peel, sweet potato, and pumpkin filling. The citrus (lemon, orange rind) sort of clashes, and malts begin to wax metallic. Finishes on what I can only say is like juicy fruit gum and day old cola.

The feel is highly carbonated and appropriately so; a medium body and a slightly chalky finish.

Overall, Sweet Potato Ale isn't too bad though it's not great either. Had I bought a six pack, I wouldn't cry. It's easy drinking. It just has a lot to be desired where the clashing comes in.

Pours a clear copper color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Poor retention and poor lacing. Smells of cinnamon, nutmeg, sweet malt, and pumpkin/sweet potato. Fits the style of a Fruit / Vegetable Beer. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of cinnamon, all spice, sweet malt, and pumpkin/sweet potato. Overall, poor appearance, good feel, and mostly spice in aroma and body.
